Fisrt let me say HAPPY BELATED holiday, hope everyone was safe.
Secondly i have been following a medication called CAMPREL which is primarly used in alcohol withdrawal and cravings.
However still, after reading the pharmocology of the drug,i dident see how or why it would pretain to only this use, when in fact its pharmocology sounds great and closly typical to those of most mood stablizers. Here is a joft of its assumed mechanism of action,
--- Acamprosate is a synthetic compound resembling the endogenous amino acid homotaurine.
Acamprosate is thought to interact with the glutamate and GABA neurotransmitters centrally to restore the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.-----BLOCKS TOXIC GLUTAMATE,AND INCREASES GABA,EVEN CLAIMED TO BE NUROPROTECTIVE,SOUNDS LIKE THE BASIC EFFECTS MOST MOOD STABLIZERS SHOOT FOR.
Theres not a lot on it and its use other then alcohol w/d which again surprised me,however i was able to find this one old posting of someone who used it for ocd only, here is the snip of his post,.......

I have been on Campral for over a year now for OCD (nothing to do with alcohol). Apparently Campral has been shown to work for OCD, so after many other medications didn't help me, my doctor suggested it.I take 666 mg a day. I've been up much higher than that, but higher didn't seem to make a difference, so I went back down. I am also on 250 mg of Lamictal a day.
Campral works very well for my OCD, better than anything else has.
The most amazing part is that for me anyway, unlike every other medication I've tried, Campral has had no side effects on me. It's like it's transparent -- very weird.
Who knows -- we're all different -- but I'd recommend it to people who have OCD and not found success with other medications. --------
with ocd thats not treated well,i think im gonna give this a shot !
