mood stabilisers plus risperidone

Posted by ICU812 on November 26, 2009, at 22:42:20

Hi there
I managed to get through all the registration stuff (phew!!)

I have bipolar and have been on Lithium (1000mg) and Tegretol(800mg) but haven't stabilised so low dose Risperdal (0.5mg) has been added to stabilise my mood. I have been cycling about every 3-4 months with last episode being psychotic.
Just wondering do the anti-psychotics have mood stabilising properties and has anyone had experience with risperdal added to other mood stabilisers.
I'm hoping it will work. I will appreciate your thoughts.
Many regards, Sam

Most of the atypical antipsychotics have some mood stabilizing properties. The four I know of with the most stats behind them are Seroquel, Zyprexa, Geodon and Abilify. Geodon and Abilify are actually antidepressants as well as antipsychotics.

I have had experience with Invega, which is the metabolite of Risperdal. I got NMS taking it so couldn't tell you much. Most who take Risperdal love it and swear by it.
