My pdoc agreed to let me have nortriptyline with Parnate! I am so happy! I really hope it helps.

I am only sleeping with the help of the loxapine and it makes me feel AWFUL. It makes me dizzy and nauseous and overall not well at all. I hope the nortriptyline makes me tired but I am not counting on it.

Maxime,
O.K. color me naive (med-wise). Is there nothing else to help sleep? Maybe I have missed the threads about parnate induced insomnia. Does your doc know how poorly you feel the day after?
Sorry sweetie that this is such a tough one for you,

He knows about the sleeping problem. The problem is, is that very little works. I have suffered from insomnia for a long and the Parnate has put me over the edge. I think I will ask him anyway if there is something else I can try that won't drug me the way the current med, Loxapine, is doing.
Thanks for your concern, FB. I appreciate it.

Hi Maxie:
I'm so glad you got the Nortriptyline! I think it generally helps the Parnate all around.
I am so sensitive to "downers" that I can't take much of anything for sleep, or I'm a zombie the whole next day. Nortrip doesn't do that to me but I can't take much.
Parnate is so strange. It's still getting better for me! but you never know what its going to do when!
I take my last 2 Parnate and 25mg of Nortript at dinnertime. I feel so mellow in the evening I might try taking a little bit of Nortript during the day, also. I don't feel like I'm going to go to sleep, but when I get into bed, relax and chant or pray a little, I'm asleep and don't wake up until am (or bathroom call). And I feel good in the am. I tried taking 2 Nortrip at night and it messed me up, I couldn't sleep. Really strange.
Maybe you can take all your Panate at night like that other fellow?
How much Nortript did pdoc recommend?
You might try one in am and one at dinnertime? with some Parnate?
I think if you can do it you might find what works without having to go to the big guns at night, there is such a price to pay the next day! Also, you're really pretty early into the Parnate, by my calculations and experience!Have you had that "brain housekeeping" feeling? like old drugs and depression are being swept away?
I hope so. It's really cool. You're getting there! Good work!!! You've tolerated a lot!!
I hope this next part goes quickly for you, at least to get some sleep!!!
Take care,
Hugs to you,
Gayle

I have not yet seen anyone else use this type of treatment yet, but combining Ambien with either Ativan or Restoril might do the trick. Personally, I had great success combining Halcion and Ativan to treat total insomnia produce by a combination of Parnate and desipramine. There were no side effects nor a hangover.
I guess a combination of Ambien and trazodone might help.

Gayle, thank you for all your suggestions. I have to take the Parnate all in the morning or else the insomnia is worse. My pdoc has prescribed 75 mg of the Nortrip. I took my first dose this morning but I am starting at 25 mg. I've been on Nortrip before and it didn't make me tired which is too bad. :(

I wish trazadone helped but it doesn't. We don't get Ambien in Canada which is too bad. I remember trying it when I lived in the US for a bit and I really liked it. Restoril doesn't help me either. I don't think benzos do the trick for me.

I took 25 mg of the nortrip this morning and I noticed for the first time that I am not grinding me teeth. This is great!

Maxie:
That's great!!
I think as the Nortrip slowly builds up in your system you will feel better and betterThat crazy Parnate! I went from taking it all in the am to taking it all at night, to spreading it out. It's hard to figure our because it changed all the time as I got more used to it!
I am so happy you're on the Nortrip. It doesn't make me tired at night but then I go to sleep! I don't think I'm going to sleep but I do! Now I'm sleeping too late in the morning so I'm going to have to adjust again.
Go girl!!
Hugs to you!

I hope you are right! I really want to start feeling better than I am. Don't get me wrong, the Parnate is helping, but more needs to be done.

How long before I feel a benefit from the nortiptyline. I assume a few weeks. I am so inpatient! :)

Understandable. It is difficult to be patient when your hand is being held over the flame. You become frantic and will do anything that will stop the pain as soon as possible.
You might feel a subtle improvement as early as day 8. However, a more significant improvement can take 4 weeks at the right dosage.
What is the plan for dosing nortriptyline? Are you going to have blood tests for nortriptyline levels along the way?
I wish you the best of luck.

I guess my reactions are weird, but I felt the Nortript the first day I took it along with dropping the amytriptyline!
It was probably a combination of both or something, but it was great!
That was probably the best I ever felt.

I wish I could be as lucky as you were. But I seem to be responding slowly to the Parnate and no doubt I will with the nortrip as well. :(

Although I am not doing as well as I could be, I am still better off than when I was just on the Cymbalta. So none of this has been in vain.
