why is everybody leaveing over the twitter face book sh*t.If you would have looked on medical site,s questions obout meds or mental illness. there are loads of mine an your threads on them, any body can read the babbble site threads an copy them to theres , So what is new, apart from new sites like twitter an face book. You have a fictious name, no photo, so what is the problem.I already told you that most sites, post there photo on there personal page ,this is the most secure you will get on any site , the others are wide open to scammers. Start a new site ,how long do you think you could keep it secure. You wont no one can not even the goverment.Stop worrying about it, we have enough to worry about, people need help from sites like this. New members are jioning all the time, whats the point in saying your leaving? Then reading the babble threads every day, cos thats what you do , am i right or am i right. babbler,s you are the one,s zukeing the site by leaveing.Change you babble name if it bothers you that much every week if you like,This is the titanic for he wrong reasons.

Hey,
While I agree with you about there being more important issues to worry about (like peoples' health), this twitter/FB thing bothers me too.

(Incidentally, i use both of those sites so I have nothing against them.)

It's not about cut/pasting from PB that I have an issue with, which I am sure people do to make a point but usually on a relevant site. Like a mental health related site. Then yes, it really helps people. It draws the people into PB that actually have a problem.

What is offensive is that both twitter and FB are purely social sites. If you check out what twitter is actually used for (by looking at stats) you will see that people there discuss harry potter and lady gaga. Not mental illness.
You must try it.... go here http://www.trendrr.com/ , type in 'bipolar' and see what results you get. Then type in 'lady gaga' and just compare.
It will give you a clear picture about what twitter is all about.

But sending these highly serious and sensitive threads directly to such sites is reducing peoples suffering to 'pop media'. I think these 2 sites are highly inappropriate for 'attracting' new members. Sure, dr-bob is mentioned on many mental health web sites and so it should be. The aim should be to have a link to psychobabble on ALL mental health related sites. That should be the goal since that's your key 'audience'.

That's where the issue lies- for me at least. To have your posts talking about suicide linked to 'fun, trivial' sites like twitter and FB undermines peoples' suffering and I personally find that offensive.

Having said that, I would not leave PB over it. But I have deactivated the link option.

I'm sure people have their own reasons for not liking the twitter thing, but this is mine.

Just my 2 cents...

I 've used twitter a fair amount from time to time and I find it anything but a social site.

I use it to keep up with important breaking news from abroad, for example, the protest of the Iranian election-- and other events as they arise-- for which it is the best source I've found online.

I've also used it to search for guided meditation and meditation sites-- and it was again quite helpful. Not as helpful as it could be, if people like Bob and others use it as a site for discovering places like Babble.

But then that's up to the users-- do they want it to be serious, or to be superificial? what do they post? what can they find? Twitter has so many possibilities to be a great source of information from other people-- and imo it already is-- Even if you get more hits from lady gaga-- than mental illness--- that can change. Nor does it define the site. It's useful to many different people in many different ways. Maybe fewer people are interested in mental illness, but that doesn't mean it isn't highly useful to people who are.

I also dont use facebook as a "purely" social site-- as if intimate connectons to other people-- and even less intimate connections to people in your past or in your circle of interests is somehow not serious.-- (I don't know why you and others think of relationships between people as somehow trivial.) I use it to keep touch with people who matter to me.

I don't get the negativity about twitter and facebook. Maybe you use them purely socially-- but that is not true of everyone-- nor is it necessarily how they can be used.

> I use it to keep up with important breaking news from abroad,

Yes, I too only use it get certain updates. But I would say the majority of people use it to 'tweet' about what they thought of 'bruno'.

>Twitter has so many possibilities

Agreed, but as it stands it is far from an ideal place to post threads of a sensitive nature. Maybe in the future.... But this is like jumping on the bandwagon just because other sites are doing it.
Like someone mentioned in another post, would there be buttons so we could send straight to twitter threads from say a sexual abuse/ rape victim support forum?? Somehow I doubt it.
Somehow I find this equally perverse.

Targeting twitter/FB seems absurd especially without even first having fully saturated the sites that are TRULY frequented by those seeking help for mental illness. And there are so many out there that need a link back to PB..

>Maybe fewer people are interested in mental illness, but that doesn't mean it isn't highly useful to people who are.

Well, I have looked and looked but have found practically nothing. Maybe you can direct me to some relevant discussions on mental health..especially on twitter.

> I also dont use facebook as a "purely" social site

I think if you took a vote, you would find that FB is used as a networking/social site by most. You are most likely an exception.

>I don't know why you and others think of relationships between people as somehow trivial.

I don't think i said or even implied that..

> I don't get the negativity about twitter and facebook.

Its not about 'negativity' They are not bad sites- they just have their place. But honestly are they the best places to send such sensitive posts to.
IMHO, no.

I guess we can agree to disagree....
Anyway this is not the best place to be having this 'debate'...it's already been done to death on the admin board.

Anyway, Take care
No offense meant...
Best,
D
