Tired on Remeron

Posted by X-ray on September 15, 2009, at 15:57:33

Hi,

Why am I so tired on Remeron?
I'm getting enough sleep.

Could Modafinil solve this problem?

Best regards,
X-ray

Remeron is notorious for sedation. Apparently it gets better at higher dosages. A lot of people take Remeron as a sleep aid.

It's notorious for daytime drowsiness.

I played around with (night-time) doses of between 7.5-30mg and it never got any better, despite the manufacturer's claims.

Maybe it gets better if you go up to 45mg.

It also had zero antidepressant effect on me and just made me dopey but jumpy and anxious at the same time.

Remeron doesn't make me sleepy. I take it just before bedtime and have been sleeping well and am alert during the day. I take 30 mg.

Hi Alexander,

I took 30 mg of Remeron on Monday night.
Had a very bad Tuesday.

Now I think I know the reason.
I took Elavil for sleep on Sunday night.

This drug has a long half-life.
So it remained in my system 24 hours later.

Best regards,
X-ray

It did the exact same to me. Helped me sleep but made me anxious and an *ss. Remeron was the worst drug for me. I almsot lost everything because of it.

Sorry to hear that John.

A chronically depressed friend - who was also very reluctant to take meds - was given generic Remeron earlier this year.

Sadly her experience was so bad that she decided never to try another med.

It pretty much did the same for me but I had been on other meds before. I am not on anything right now and it has been two years. Right now allergies are messing with my sleep and causing anxiety but I just haven't found anything in the med world for anxiety that I can tolerate.

Remeron is like a sledge hammer. It just made me someone I didn't know and like. The sponge brain was terrible. I really think all it does it help one sleep and that isn't very helpful.

How you feeling better? Wow med free. That's awesome if you're well. Phillipa

I'm very surprised to hear that some feel anxiety and other negative side-effects from Remeron-S.
I have tried several anti-depr. drugs and felt they really f*ck*d me up and that I wasn't myself.

I have had sleepingproblems for years, (due to violent experiences) and was not able to sleep more than 3 hours in a row, waking up stressed out and unable to fall asleep again. A living hell!
Remeron changed my life! Finally I got 8-9 hours sleep at night -in a row! I'm able to function as a human being when I get the sleep that I need.
Saying that, if you feel tired, what time of day do you take it?
I do not believe you should take it at any other time than approx 30 min before bedtime. Some doctors have suggested splitting the dose day and night but I wouldn't do that. Would you take a sleeping pill before going to work? Of course not! I used to try diffent sleeping pills and everyone knows they can be very addictive and are not happily prescribed by dr's. I have completely stopped them (good thing) and feel I am a much more well-balansed person. Without feeling groggy the next morning!
If you take it at night and is tired the next day maybe your dose is too high for you?
I was at first subsribed 30mg, but that has changed to a dose of 45mg during summer and 60mg during winter or in case of depression.

We're all different though with different chemicals in different amounts in our bodies so what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you.

Take care!

Hi Jensol

Welcome to Psycho-Babble. I've never tried Remeron myself, but I'm glad it's working for you.

I tend to have the opposite problem most days, I sleep too much.

Deneb
