Please help: articles supporting Provigil+Parnate?

Posted by Sunbath on October 5, 2009, at 12:31:17

I'd really like to convince my pdoc to try adding low dose Provigil, which is quite difficult since it's not done over here..

Daytime somnolence is really too much for me, I don't know how long I can take this while going to university...

Are there any articles that state that it's common practice to use stimulants to fight the fatigue side effect of Parnate?

Thanks a lot for any help!!

If you happen to read this please tell me if your daytime sleepiness only improved after you added Adderall.
Thanks a lot, hope you are still doing great!

I think modfanil would be worth the try

Sunbath I have done a thorough search and like the others have found only a few case reports in Pubmed. Also sadly on the Provigil prescribing info it states that caution is advised when using with Parnate because no trials have been conducted with it. But on a positive note it does say in my book Stephen Stahl's Prescribers Guide that stimulants CAN be added BUT under supervision of an expert.

Sorry, nothing concrete to report.:(
Hope things get better. I empathize with you- sedation makes drug treatment much more difficult
Take Care

Hi delna, doesn't matter, thank you very much for trying!!
BTW: I don't have the book, but I found this on stahlonline http://stahlonline.cambridge.org/prescribers_drug.jsf?page=0521683505c89_p505-510.html.therapeutics&name=Tranylcypromine&title=Therapeutics
but they just mention real stimulants, not modafinil :(

Maybe it will work for me without the stimulant though.. sometimes I already feel quite stimulated.. it's only during the day when brain fog and tiredness comes over me big time.. (but I think it has already improved a tiny bit)

take care!

That's the first article I've ever read that states may not work. I sure hope your're one of the ones it does work well for. Phillipa

Well I am so glad you are feeling better!! Wow about the site, I didn't know it existed- I use his books. I guess he can't speak of modafanil because it hasn't been studied but it is a great 'stimulant' which apparently is less likely to react badly due to its relatively benign side- affect profile. It is definetly less likely to cause changes in blood pressure compared to classical stimulants.
But if you don't need it - don't take it. Parnate may be stimulating enough.
Take care
