.............I was initially prescribed 50mg of Seroquel XR (bed time). That was upped to 150mg XR at bedtime. I was given samples of 150mgXR tablets. That helped me sleep better and took the edge off my anxiety/agitation/depression. So it worked fairly successfully for its purpose.
My samples ran out, so I took 3 x 50mgXR tabs , thinking this would be the equivalent to the 150 XR tab, and I could use the remaining 50 mg's I had.
Well it didn't work the same. I was MUCH groggier/drowsier at bedtime (not a big deal really, since I slept easily!). BUT, I'm much groggier/spacier/tireder, and in a fog, the next day. I'm still not fit to drive 15 hours after taking the three 50mg's. I've no idea when these effects are going to fade away.
Can anyone explain why I had stronger drowsiness-type effects from 3 x 50mg XR tablets, than a single 150mg XR tablet???
Is this a phenomenon peculiar to Seroquel XR ???
OR are other drugs similar?Thank you so much.
JPS:I'm getting the 150mg script filled today, so I can go back to the single tablet tonight.

>Some questions here. How many samples of the 150mg XR did you use before you started the 50mg x3 dose? Perhaps the side effects kicked in and it's just a coincidense? Your sweet spot might be in the 75-100mg range dose?

*Well same med, as in Seroquel XR (not listed as Quetiapine, for example). But the 150mg sample was from Seroquel's manufacturer, Astra-Zeneca, in the UK. It says manufactured in the UK.
The 50mg prescription was identified as Seroquel 50mg XR, and was also manufactured by AstraZeneca, but it doesn't say where. They're based in Delaware, so maybe they were made in the US?
And if so, perhaps that's why the difference?

Your sweet spot might be in the 75-100mg range dose?* I took the samples of 150mg XR for 4 nights, after taking 50mg XR for 2 weeks, prior to that.
At 50mg I still had some symptoms, including insomnia and zero side effects.
At 150mg XR in a single tab, I slept great and continued to improve (agitated depression & anxiety pretty much gone, after 4 days on it).
After 3 x 50mg XR tabs, I slept great for 8 hours, but feel like I could have slept for another 12 hours, if my alarm hadn't woken me. In fact I feel mostly asleep even though I'm awake!
Still feel the good effects noted, but it's hard to tell with all the brain fog & slowness.I should say that I've also had my Trileptal switched to Neurontin (3x300mg daily) due to side effects. I've been on Neurontin for 10 days. (Had been on Trileptal for 2 weeks prior).
I guess that is a lot of changes for my poor body to adjust to! I've never been on either class of drugs before.

Could it be that the different size or surface area of the smaller tablets caused them to break down and enter the bloodstream at a different rate to the single larger one?

I guess there's no easy answer, but I thank you for your suggestion.
I'm taking the 150mg tab tonight and will report on how I feel tomorrow. I guess I need to do more experimenting.
One thing's for sure, most of us at this site are being human guinea pigs every day! The scientists aren't really sure how half the drugs we take work!!
Be well.
