This post here pertains to Nardil's efficacy with regards to it's potent anti-SP properties.... I am trying very hard to parralel it's effects in this disorder via Nardil's MOA
I will not mention it's supreme supreme antidepressant or other anxiolytic effects for the moment. However, I Must hasten to mention also it's applicability in the treatment of OCD, and ruminative type problems. Before raising my dose back up to 90mg, there was an acute and painful self-consciousness which rendered my social life non-existant. "What are they thinking of me"? "Am I weird to them"? "If I wear these clothes will I be laughed at"?
"What do I say next"?All of this was not psychotic ideation. But painfully self-referential....The brain never stopped!
OK, raised my dose back to 90mg....by the Grace of God, I had just split with my girl not so long ago.....
Bang! Within 2 days.......
Talk about a day and night difference!
I can go anywhere and I DON'T CARE if people are thinking- actually- I hope they are!!!!
My natural exuberance, outgoing behaviour and zest for life is no longer thwarted...
I am free!
I can dance!
I can wear what i want!
I talk to any gals or guys!
And I get a LOT of phone numbers and dates!!!!!!
I can be myself and assimilate.....
Now, compare this to two months ago- little old Ace sitting in his room studying and too self-conscious to go out for fear of what others would think.....or what i thought they were thinking...
I state all of this to urge all of you to give this med a try!!!!!You all deserve the same happiness I have got from it.
I feel like an *ss sometimes letting you know how great I feel- 'cause I know you all are not feeling this. And goodness knows, I have been down that dark, stifling road too many times myself..
I just truly hope this helps....please never give in....!

An anectode I just saw and havent seen before!
"NARDIL (MAO-I) IS THE ONLY MED THAT WORKS ON ME~ I'VE TRIED TRICYCLICS, SSRI'S, BETA BLOCKERS, PROZAC AND NARDIL IS THE ONLY MED THAT WORKS COMPLETELY~I'M STILL TAKING IT, AND AFTER 24 YEARS, IT'S STILL WORKING!!!!! YAY!!
GETTING ON IT IS TRICKY~IT HAS A HYPNOTIC EFFECT, AND IT TAKES GETTING USED TO~BUT A GREAT SIDE BENEFIT IS IF YOU HAVE MIGRANE HEADACHES, THEY GO AWAY, ENTIRELY!!!!! NARDIL TENDS TO GIVE YOU A SWEET TOOTH, AND SOME WEIGHT GAIN, BUT I WOULDNT GIVE IT UP FOR ANYTHING!!!!! IT'S STILL THE BEST~THERE ARE MEDICATIONS AND FOODS & DRINKS YOU MUST AVOID, BUT BY AND LARGE, THEIR THINGS ANYONE COULD DO WITHOUT. IT'S ALSO GOOD FOR LOWERING BLOOD PRESSURE!!! "

How long have you been on it? I'll be curious to see if this effect lasts. My impression is that the profoundly positive effects people have with MAOIs are somewhat transient.

Ace,I'm happy to see you back on Nardil.
Ace, do you feel any hypomania? I'm not suggesting that you are hypomanic; I'm just checking 'cause you are a friend. See if any of the following symptoms apply to the way you currently feel:
1.inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
2.decreased need for sleep (e.g., feels rested after only 3 hours of sleep)
3.more talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking
4.flight of ideas, or subjective experience that thoughts are racing
5.distractibility (i.e., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli)
6.increase in goal-directed activity (either socially, at work or school, or sexually) or psychomotor agitation
7.excessive involvement in pleasurable activities that have a high potential for painful consequences (e.g., engaging in unrestrained buying sprees, sexual indiscretions, or foolish business investments)
-- Ron
dx: Bipolar II with ultra rapid cycling and mild OCPD
600 mg/day Trileptal
200 mg/day Lamictal
500 mg/day Keppra
90 mg/day Nardil

See if any of the following symptoms apply to the way you currently feel:No, I can understand your sentiments, but Nardil just re-instates my natural healthy exuberant zest for life - pre-existing any psychiatric treatment, obviously a long time ago when I was a young boy. I have always been a very energetic person. I appreciate your concern.

Hi friend. Have been on nardil years- maybe 7. have heard of this happening, but usually responds to a 'washout' restart.
But heard of many on Nardil for 10-20+ years with no poop-out phenomenon.
From what I have seen it is the exception, not the rule.
And many, I feel, inadvertently bring on this syndrome

>I remember the same thing as a child. All my senses seemed so sharp and the excitement I felt about things that occurred in my life. I felt happy about art class, a swim in the pool, a special program in school, something I was looking forward to anywhere, chrismas, Easter, Spring, Summer, winter and snow falls. My senses were so alive. Yes I might feel fear, unhappiness about something but only for a small period of time as it should be.
But I had problems brewing. To short, to fat, learning problems and yes to sensitive about these issues. So finally stress began to prevail in my teen years and finally dispair and depression emerged. But yes I can remember when I was just a young boy and all the smells of summer overwhelmed me with joy.
But now I am 62 and that seems so long ago. Maybe now and than I get a quick glimpse of those long past days.

As a neighbor said recently aging isn't for the weak. And nothing you can do about it. It's a fact of life doesn't make it easier to accept but what's the alternative? Phillipa
