Hello, and thanks (in advance). My psychiatrist has advised me to add 50mg Zoloft to the 25mg of Lexapro that I am already taking.
The Lexapro hasn't really had enough effect on my anxiety and associated occasional depression. Actually, he suggested I reduce the Lexapro to 20mg when I start the Zoloft, but he wants me to take both (this is not a matter of switching from one to the other).
As an alternative, I could increase the Lexapro dosage to 30mg, without adding the Zoloft, but he prefers I try the combination.
Does anybody have any insight for me ragarding this dual SSRI treatment? Or any insight on upping the Lexapro to 30mg?
Thank you so much.

Yeah good question. I would think the best way to go would be to try either Zoloft or Lexapro and find a dosage that works for you over time. You may feel much better after 8 weeks on 100 mgs of Zoloft. Or, you may fell better after 8 weeks on 30 or 40 mgs of Lexapro.
He must be thinking that Zoloft being a dirtier(in a good way) SSRI will complement Lexapro, the cleanest SSRI.
I'm guessing that risk of serotonin syndrome is probably fairly low if your are just adding 25mgs of Zoloft

Kind of like when I was taking low doses of paxil and luvox. They worked together. Found the paxil when removed luvox didn't work as well if at all. Phillipa

Though not often done, I think combining two different SSRIs can make sense. Each has unique functions. They are not duplicates of each other.
