I want to tell my psychiatrist I have become addicted to Dexedrine. I want to have a discussion and need guidance, I dont want to go off it I just want to control the tolerance or manage dosing better, actually I believe I need an increase because I run out due to the current dosage being inneffective. Currently I have my script filled by random doctors, as I dont have a GP. She is a new psychiatrist and has never perscribe it to me, but is aware I take it. I have sent her an email and left her a voicemail very upset stating I am addicted. My hope was that she would be the doctor who perscribes me this drug on a reg basis, so that I wouldnt have to search for walk-ins and be interogated like a criminal, or often told "no". Anyways If I explain everything thats going on will she refuse to perscribe it? will she report me to my drug insurance company, or put me on some kind of addict pharmacy registry? I dont want to stop using Dexedrine, it works very well...I want help to manage it. Should I just forget the appt with her?

Absolutely no don't forget the appointment. It's especially important for you at this time to have one doc to monitor and possible suggest alternatives or add ons or a different med. I still have to answer you mail will soon. Your're not a addict. Just find one person to prescribe for you. Love Phillipa

Its a tough situation to be in. If you think you can control the addiction on your own (I know this is a bad recomendation but..), and you feel that the stimulant is really helping the ADHD then don't tell her. If its just plain out of control then tell her - you may have to come off - and you'll be trying other options (which unfortunately may not be as effective - but then again who knows).
