Cee it's me again are you saying you are totally off all meds? I don't think I ever will be. Phillipa ps if no meds you tell him you need something.

Hi Cee,

I had months of withdrawal symptoms from effexor--so you have my sympathies. I would, imho, tell my pdoc exactly how I feel. Maybe you can get some relief. Are you washing out for an MAOI? Are you med free as Phillipa asked?

let us know how you are doing,

Two months for prozac. Three months for zyprexa. One week for just two doses of Cymbalta. That's how long it has taken me to get past withdrawals.

I wonder if it is not a combination of several things.
1)Withdrawals themselves.
2)The brain has been changed by the drug and is now confused where to go without it.
3)Other systems have been impacted and take a long time to readjust.(immune, hormonal)
4)Certain genes may have been permanently turned up or down.
5)The original underlying condition has evolved over time, hidden by the drug's effects.

I suspect of the above possibilities, the primary one is the time it takes for biochemistry to adapt to a new environment, especially if receptor sensitivities have changed (they have) and receptor densities have changed (they have).

All these meds are so powerful. I used to take them with little problem, now they scare the heck out of me. You know the saying, the cure is worse than the disease. The only problem is, here at pbabble, it is what, maybe 1 in 10, who actually gets a cure from these meds. All the rest are stories similar to yours and mine. I think sometimes Las Vegas odds are better than psych med odds. In this particular difficult sample group anyway.

Time will help. Begin researching what is available outside of psychiatry in the alternative and integrative fields I feel is helpful. Illnesses and symptoms can be greatly reduced when the body gets what it really needs, which is probably not cymbalta or whatever.
