Maximum Effexor dosage for anxiety - really 75mg??

Posted by jms600 on September 19, 2009, at 8:24:38

I've just read some NICE guidance notes ('National Institute of Clinical Excellence' - here in Britain) on anxiety. In the guidance notes they advise that the absolute maximum dosage of Effexor for the treatment of anxiety disorders should be 75mg!

Would such a low dose really help? Surely at least 150mg would be more beneficial in treating anxiety as it's a higher dose - yet not too high??

Not really sure where this recomendation comes from. It can work at doses <= 75mg but I wouldn't say this is necessarily an upper limit.

Weird. I read it was up to 225mg once - in GAD/Panic disorder I think. Would your doc be ok with increasing if ineffective?

75 is where you get the sri effect. 225+ starts to get some nri effect. thats probably where they came up with that. probably not true even for OCD (on a population basis)
