I am seeing a psychologist. When I tell him about the troubles I am having, he just listens but doesn't respond with any kind of "empathetic response". When I read an article about finding a therapist, it said you wanted to feel you had a supportive and empathetic ally in your choice of a therapist. For example told him I saw my wife out with another man in a romantic setting and it was very disturbing. Rather than say "wow, that must have upset you" or something of the like, he doesn't say anything, just listens. This is my first time in counseling. Generally speaking he is OK but have noticed this one thing about him. He does not respond with any kind of "that is too bad" or anything like that to what I would consider serious things. I mean that is why I chose a counselor in the first place as the issues are not run of the mill. It makes me wonder if he understands how difficult these issues are because his saying nothing confuses me. Any feedback would be appreciated. Before I went with him I had met with 3-4 therapists to "interview" them and picked him. It had been suggested to me to do so. Thank you. R.

Hey there and Welcome to babble.
I think if you posted this in the "psychology" section you would get more response... this here happens to be the section where people post about medications, drugs and their issues with them.
come on over to the "psychology" section! :o)
