Hi,
of course at the beginning it increased anxiety, but later seemed to blunt me enough to feel less anxiety.. took about 1-2 months. The effect -for me- wasn't very strong though..
How long were you on it?

It increased my anxiety a lot but it got rid of the depression. You might want to try Cymbalta if you can't handle the anxiety because it's not as activating.

Effexor certainly does increase my anxiety but the brand name is usually less anxiety producing than the generics and the XL is better than the other formulations.
Try to get the brand name, no substitutions and try the XL. It's smoother.

I've been on it for years....it has helped me to some degree, but maybe it's not the answer. I think I need more, but I don't know what, I don't really understand my situation in psychopharmacological terms.

oh yeah, me too. Effexor is definitely better in the XR version. It doesn't seem to stay in my system very long. I start to feel withdrawal effects of effexor in the middle of the day, even if I divide the doses. Maybe I need something with a longer half life.

No, every xxRI I've ever taken, including Effexor, has lessened my anxiety. Recently, though, Prozac caused dysphoria, but that seems a bit different than anxiety, from my perspective..Although these types of drugs don't give me anxiety, they do give me depression.
I heard Wellbutrin causes anxiety for some too, but never did for me.

Interesting. I'm also suffering what I describe as "dysphoria" (rather than bona fide anxiety) from generic Prozac.
How would you describe the symptoms, Garnet?
