I haven't been to this board for a long long time.
I now live in the US and a new psych doc. He appears to be treating me as Bipolar 2, rather than GAD as previously dx'd. I'm both very depressed (sadness/lethargy) and have inner agitation/anger.
Just prescribed Trileptal 300mg BID, Seroquel XR 50mg at night and Pristiq 50mg AM. This is a start and dosage will probably be changed later.
I took myself off Effexor XR 6 months ago after a very slow withdrawal. Unmedicated since then.
I'm afraid to take the Seroquel (never been on an anti-psychotic), but took it for the 1st time last night (3 days after being prescribed). Took the Trileptal (never been on a mood stablizer) at 150mg x2 per day at first, today will take the prescribed 300mg. Don't want to take Pristiq.
I'd like advice/opinion/comments on starting all 3 medications (all of which are new to me) at once, or close together.
I hate medications.
Thank you all.

Welcome back a lot are away on vacation. Usually one med at a time. Don't blame you for being hesitant about the seroquel. What happened to have you doc decide that you again needed meds and the change of diagnosis? Phillipa

Hi there:
Well, welcome to the world of polypharmacy. I honestly think you will do well with the Pristiq as you have a good balance with seroquel and trileptal. They are safe meds that can really help balance mood. Best wishes,
Jay

Thx Phillipa.
This is a new doc to me. I have spent the last 3 yrs moving & living in diff. locations. Over this time I have been unmedicated (my choice) or on Effexor XR (up to 225mg) prescribed and re-scripted by several primary care docs, as I moved around.
During this time I've alternated between a 3 month period of hypo-mania, anxiety/agitation (my usual state!), and 2 bouts of depression, which is where I am now. I am seeing a therapist here, who noted my current mood changes & suggested a pdoc.
I was very aggravated in my new pdoc's office, and also cried. As a result, pdoc said I had a mood disorder that needed stabilizing. He said I was presenting with depression/agitation now. I told him I was afraid of going hypo-manic again. Hence the new combo of drugs. How are you these days, Phillipa?

I just hated the side-effects of Effexor. Was on it for over a year, and began to feel un-helped by it - poop-out. In the end sexual S/E's made me stop it. It took 6 weeks of very slow tapering, and worse effects to get off it. So I'm very reluctant to go on Effexor junior (alias Pristiq).I've taken SSRI's in the past (since 2000) with poop-out and bad sexual side effects, also.
Got a suggestion instead of the Pristiq?.
J
