hi, i'm a new member *waves* although i have read a number of posts.
my question is about where to go next.
I've tried researching this myself but i'm a little confused. I understand that differant medications affect differant neutransmitters but i'm not sure how. to be honest, it all confuses me a little.
so about me;
i'm a 19 year old female from the uk. i've been depressed since i was 12 but i was diagnosed at 14. i've also been diagnosed with mild ocd, ptsd, gad and i have eating issues too. all of the above besides the depression come with stress and as i'm not stressed at the moment they're not bothering me.i've been on (in order):
flouxetine
sertraline
mirtazapine
amitryptiline
venlexfaxine.
*all for depression.buspar
chlorpromazine
*for anxietyambian
*sleepthe chlorpromazine and ambian work fine, it's just trying to find the right anti depressant. the sertraline, amitriptline and venlafaxine made a SLIGHT improvement, but nothing major. all meds were put up the highest dose recommended before switching.
so with the drugs i've been on and the ones that have worked on whichever neurotransmitter they've worked on, which would you next recommend?
i have a new pdoc and i'm worried because she doesn't know me and god knows what they'll try me on next.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome. It would be helpful to know why you dropped the meds you did, and what the eating issue is (too much, too little, purging, etc.). Remember with the doc, no one knows you better than you.

if stress is a primary trigger, then it may be worth considering CBT, meditation, and/or regular exercise.

i've done CBT twice before and it didn't really help.
Eating issues are bingeing sometimes then not eating othertimes.
I doubt i'll get prescribed an MAOI because of my age, 19, and i've never heard of anyone here ever being prescribed one.
Thanks for your replies :)

Hi,
I'm on amitriptyline and buspirone,
but I want to come off amitriptyline.I'm going to see my doc on Thursday,
and I will ask for bupropion. One possible side effect of bupropion is anxiety.
For this reason I might add a benzo for the first month.I think that bupropion could be the right drug for you.
This medicine will certainly lift your mood. The brand name for bupropion is Wellbutrin in the U.S.
Is it Zyban in the U.K.?Best regards,
X-ray

You've only tried 2 SSRIs. Perhaps you could try another one like Celexa in combination with a mood stabiliser like lithium, or trileptal. Maybe the mood stabiliser is what is missing from your cocktail. I'm sorry if you are feeling like a guinea pig right now. I am sure that you will eventually find the right combo.

Another thought what about luvox for OCD and ativan short term for Gad? That combo was good for me early in treatments. Phillipa

depression is a pretty broad thing. what symptoms are you trying to treat? that is probably what thinking of neurotransmitters is helpful for.
