does somebody know where there is benson (former harvard professor) self hypnosis information (this is a very easy self hypnosis method that was used by astronauts) online? . I lost that paper after I did that method when I had a back pain problem. I can recommend it but didn't find it on the internet.
thanks

this is a great method for some people. I learned it from an American anesthesiologist
here is another version.

astronauts learned this to have a tool in emergency situations. It is very easy which is an advantage. But it needs regular practice.

Yes relaxation response I believe is proven to work to relax a person if they can just concentrate and let go of their thoughts. Love Phillipa

These are standard relaxation methods... guided imagery is one principal one, counting backward, imagining a favourite scenery, place, etc... going through your body parts imagining them relaxing and putting you in a calm state.
Then, the counting to ten is reversed back and you slowly return to the world around you. (Its not as if you might not hear things around you, although if you can get into that great a state where you're not really paying attention, that's excellent.)
I used to have fewer symptoms, anxiety and other issues that I was able to do this.
You have to be receptive to it -- and its not a parlor trick, nobody is going to make you cluck like a chicken, its being open to other ways of settling an anxious moment other than patching it up constantly with a benzodiazepine or something (not that I'm saying one may or may need that.)
Sometimes you can get your therapist, if they're savvy enough to do this, to make a tape specialized for you in their free time. You have to appreciate the voice and context of the person speaking though. Some people may respond to any voice, some to a familiar one, etc.

Don't you think it could make sense to use p babble in a more pragmatic way eg. use it and support when necessary but leave if it doesn't work for you or you could use time more favorable for therapy other than p babble ?

sdb I'm flattered you called me PJ means you pay attention. In a way pbabble is theraphy for me as keeps my fingers busy and forces my brain to think. I have a horrible problem just can't do nothing. I get extremly aggitated and anxious inside and start to imagine all kinds of diseases and such. I used to be able to do Yoga but only with an instruction to guide me as couldn't keep the positions long enough as always have to move. I don't feel a med can cure this and I understand what your're saying. Well maybe with some versed I could. Can you help me learn to relax? Please Love Pj
