Agomelatine-Australia

Posted by Palms on August 10, 2009, at 16:37:00

Hi Dr, Bob,

Is Agomelatine available in Australia yet? If so is it as good as everybody says. I have had everything including 100ECT and nothing works. I have suffered with Treatment Resistant Depression for 24years. How if it does work is it any different. Can Dr. Bob tell me why nothing else has worked on me? Can't they do some sort of test to find out which chemicals and how much are missing in the Brain and just give you that. My Depression isn't caused from anything not that I know of. Please HELP!!!!

Thanks.
Gina.

>Is Agomelatine available in Australia yet?

Nope

>If so is it as good as everybody says.

It may not help you. It helps me somewhat, with no side effects. It's likely as good as it's going to get for me.

>I have had everything including 100ECT

Goodness

>and nothing works.

That's my line too, but I'm sorry for you. 100 is a lot.

>I have suffered with Treatment Resistant Depression for 24years.

Goodness, again

>How if it does work is it any different.

Not knowing what you have tried it is difficult to say. It feels dopaminergic, so in that sense it could be said to be like Parnate. It is an agonist at melatonin receptors and an antagonist at 5ht2c. It can help people (such as myself) who have poor sleep.

>Can Dr. Bob tell me why nothing else has worked on me? Can't they do some sort of test to find out which chemicals and how much are missing in the Brain and just give you that. My Depression isn't caused from anything not that I know of. Please HELP!!!!

Yeah well, that's where we are I'm afraid. My parents always told me to stay away from psychiatrists. I thought at the time they were poorly informed.

Success rate is similar to other ADs. It stimulates neurogenesis through a different mechanism and with fewer side effects.

Hello Gina

If you can work out how to turn your babblemail on I will be able to tell you where I live.

You see where my name is lit up in blue?

If you click on that you can write to me privately.

And if you can somehow find out how to turn yours on, I can write to you.

But I've forgotten how to do it.

Perhaps someone can help?
