zyprexa to paxil

Posted by markwell on August 12, 2009, at 14:30:17

I'm considering going from zyprexa to paxil and am really confused whether I can stop zyprexa cold or do i need to do a reduced dose 1st. With zyprexa when i try to split a tablet it seems like it doesn't get absorbed properly. I am on 5 mgs of zyprexa and my doctor will probably start me with 10mgs of paxil. I thought about trying pristiq but effexor didn't touch my depression at all so I don't want to give that a try. I'd appreciate any input!

I would just start the Paxil and continue with 5 mg for the first five days. Then you can go down to 2.5 mg and stay there for a week or so. If you are feeling pretty stable at the 2 week point you can try stopping Zyprexa. You could, and maybe should stretch this out longer and take Zyprexa for 3 or 4 weeks just to make sure you are close to getting what you need from Paxil.

Then again, I think there are some that have just quit zyprexa cold turkey without any major problems. I wouldn't do it though, especially if you are trying to keep yourself feeling as comfortable as possible through the transition.

I agree with above as when started paxil at l0mg needed benzos and lopressor as stimulating for me. SSRI's and Snri's both are for me. Phillipa
