Numb/Sex. Problems...

Posted by SheilaC on August 11, 2009, at 15:09:33

Ok - so far I've been on Pristiq a week and it seems to help a lot with anxiety and a little for depression, although I wonder if its because I just feel numb - my emotions and personality just feel numb. Do you know what I mean?

Now the bigger issue is that everything south of my waist is numb! I can't handle that. Is there any way to counter that side effect?

I thought about adding either Wellbutrin or a little Abilify (Abilify made me overly sexual).

I don't know if either one of those will work or if I have to stop taking Pristiq.

I just got back from my pdoc and spent most of the time trying to figure out how to overcome the sexual side effects of pristiq- which is not supposed to have sexual side effects for women!
I have been on 100mgs of wellbutrin SR which has done nothing in 3 weeks. Does give me a little more energy but no improvement in the sex department. We are switching to Wellbutrin 150mg XL, extended release to see if I can tolerate a higher dose without getting too anxious. I also have a script for Viagra. The deal is that it won't increase desire but it does increase blood flow and does help some women. There is also a med called Mirapex, a dopamine agonist which is a drug used for Parkinsons which does increase sexuality in some people. Floating Bridge actually told me about it. That would be the next step if neither of the others work. It's a complete and total drag. I'll keep you updated if there is any good or bad news.

Thanks for the info. I figured since I was so numb that the Wellbutrin probably wouldn't help. Like I said, Abilify had the strange side effect in me that actually made me more interested and sensitive sexually, so I may try a little bit of it.

Keep me posted on anything that might work. With the constipation that Pristiq has caused me and now the sexual problems, I'm not sure if I can stay on this drug.

I am also now taking stool softeners and Citrucel. Charming. But the pristiq has definitely helped with the depression....
These are the choices we face.

I have the exact same problem with all SSRIs/SNRIs and the only thing that has worked for me is Viagra/Levitra.
