I have been on 50mg of Pristiq for 4 days and am taking it for depression and anxiety. I notice that I feel more jittery and nervous/anxious? Is this just a start up side effect and will it go away?
I have been taking Klonopin a lot to override the jitters.
Anyone know if this side effect goes away? I need to appear calm and intelligent, not jittery and nervous and shaky.

I hate to weigh in on my experience but when I took Effexor many years ago it became like taking 12 cups of coffee and I couldn't sleep at all.But I am also one of those who has anxiety and depression at the same time, and its hard to treat both for me with the same agent.
I would hang in there for a bit and see if it is a startup transient, but if it continues for much longer and is intolerable, I'd say it may not be the medication for you.
Klonopin temporarily is fine for the jitters but if the medication is to "break through" the depression, Klonopin is just another CNS depressant.

Can't say really on that but I imagine its some fraction of the Effexor dose because of being the metabolite. Its probably trial and error.-- Jay

I think the jitters are pretty much gone now. Must have been a start up kind of thing. But caffine combined with Pristiq does cause jitters.

Yes, I did give up the coffee and the jitters are gone. Yea. Now I am just battleing severe constipation! I've tried prunes, fiber, water, magnisium. I've started taking a laxitive at night. I wonder if this side effect will go away in time or will I have to take laxitives forever? Can't be good for me.

Long term laxatives are -not- a good idea. They just interrupt the natural balance of the elimination process and you can become dependent on them. Then not using them will cause reverse constipation, and continuing could also cause severe diarrhea.
I had some constipation when I took Remeron quite a while back; I used Citrucel. May need to up the fiber in your diet, high fiber cereals, salads, etc, in addition to supplements like psyllium fiber.
