Pristiq input

Posted by markwell on August 6, 2009, at 14:42:15

I am currently taking 5mgs of zyprexa and I'm just not getting much help with depression from it. The only AD I haven't tried is pristiq. Is that a good option with zyprexa? I tried effexor in the past and it didn't help at all. Is effexor and pristiq pretty much the same drug?

I don't think there is enough experience with Pristiq to be able to compare it to Effexor. However, it might be informative to know that Pristiq is an active metabolite of Effexor. So, even when you are taking Effexor only, you will have a significant amount of Pristiq flowing through your veins. Still, I don't think one can be 100% certain that Pristiq won't work for you.

I am currently taking Parnate, an MAOI. If I were forced to discontinue it, I would probably go for Pristiq, even though I had limited success with Effexor.

What drugs have you tried thus far?

Did you try adding Wellbutrin or nortriptyline to Effexor?

I do know there are less side-effects to pristiq, having been on both, though not quite sure if effexor does something that pristiq doesn't in combination. Maybe you could put out a thread specific to pristiq and zyprexa. Some babblers must have tried it.

A lot of the threads say pristiq has less stimulating effects than effexor which I could not tolerate to stimulating. Perhaps the time release helps? Wonder what equivlency of 50mg pristiq to to what dose of effexor? Love Phillipa
