Cr*p. Wish me luck. I'm not feeling too great today. Pdoc asked if I would do it for the next two weeks. I don't know what else to do. Every decision seems so fr*ckin' big. I'll get through this.

P.S. pdoc said he could add emsam to a lower dose of pristiq if necessary. I was shocked. He said something about doing that if we needed to treat depression aggressively. Has anyone heard of that?

I know you wanted to change avenues so you must be really disappointed. Is 100mg double the amount of Pristiq? therefore maybe double the amount of withdrawal pains when you go off of it?
That's a bummer. But then maybe this will work. Pdoc must think so!
What about the dexedrine?...seemed like that was helping the most with the fatigue and S.A. Maybe it will be your ace in the hole when you need it.
Thanks for letting us know the latest, and I'd love to know how it's going for you.
Good luck! gayle

My gosh, I've never heard of that, but then I'm a meds novice.
But it does really sound positive! If the Pristiq isn't working it sounds like adding Emsam 1)may really work or 2)might be a really good way to ultimately get off the Pristiq with some AD working in the background!
Do I remember correctly that he thought Emsam might not be stimulating enough for you? What does he think of Ensam? of Parnate? (selfish me, asking for myself!)
Anyway, that's very interesting! Sounds like he thinks outside the box!!

FB,
How have you found the pristiq so far? I am on 100mgs and it helped. And except for the sexual side effects- a big except- I have had no side effects that I can tell. Why worry about getting off it now? It may really help and getting off of it may be the last thing on your mind. I too have wondered whats going on with the dex. since you seem to always report that it helps.
Zana
I think you are doing the right thing to try it. That's the only way you'll know if it's helpful to you.

fb you already on pristiq as thinking why not start at 50mg. But I've never heard of adding a med with some ssri to basically an maoi Emsam. I wouldn't do it without some serious research. Love Phillipa

Yes, I'm thinking that I didn't understand him correctly about the patch and the pristiq. I've googled my fingers off and have found only warning against this combination....I don't know what he was talking about, and I was getting hysterical (the inside type). I have found info that says some adjunct cns stimulation (dex for example) has been well-tolerated if monitored....
Thanks for the responses everyone. I've taken my emergency meds and am off to bed.

fb, See my posts about pristiq. Hopefully your experience will be different.
Is he starting you at 100? I question that from the start.
Wish you well.

Hi Phil,
I've been at 50 for 5-6 months now--I tolerate it pretty well. We'll see how I do on 100 (last night at 100 was fine). I know it was awful for you--I've seen the posts. How's the withdrawal? No problem?

Not sure it was from Pristiq but threw up all day yesterday. Drive to store with plastic bag to throw up in to pick up stomach script.
I'd love to walk in to Wyeth offices with a fkn rocket launcher. : )
Thanks

I agree that the emsam and the pristiq sound like a funky combination. I think it's always better to err on the side of caution with MAOIs but that's because I know so little about them. I do know that I couldn't combine emsam with prozac.
There is apparently some research which supports the efficacy of using 100mgs of pristiq for treatment resistant depression. (How I hate that phrase!) I didn't have any trouble increasing from 50 to 100 and I did recapture some of the AD effect that I felt when I began pristiq at 50. I was told to take it in the AM so that it wouldn't interfer with sleep but if you've been sleeping OK on 50, I don't know why 100 would be a problem.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Zana,
I think I must have misunderstood what he meant regarding pristiq and emsam.
I did take the 100 last night (plus xanax) and slept like a rock. Feel alright today. If I could just do the med thing w/o the emotional drama I bring to it, I think it'd be so much easier.
Thanks again for your post, and I'll let you (all) know how it goes,
