Yay Parnate!! and Thanks!

Posted by ColoradoSnowflake on July 26, 2009, at 23:10:20

The last 4 days I've felt better than I have in a REALLY long time!!! Yippee Yi Aye!!
I've been on Parnate for 3 months now and it's finally kicking in when taken with the Provigil!!and the Nortriptyline! and kicking the Amytriptyline to the curb!! (THANK YOU SCOTT!! ) If this keeps up I am going to have to take classes on what to do when you're feeling good....it's been so long!
The last hurdle is getting some sleep. I've only had 2 or 3 hours a night for 4 nights. I'm going to give it some more time to see how things level out.
I'd like some suggestions on when and how to dose the Parnate/provigil/nortrip. Maybe that will help. Is nortrip a night-time med?
Thanks to all you Babblers who have helped and supported me and made great suggestions and gotten me this far. I think on my own I would have given up a long time ago. No one else I know has even heard of Parnate! and it really scared me. This Forum is a great bunch of very knowledgeable, kind and helpful people.
(Hopefully I wont be posting and sobbing in a few days.)

Thanks everybody, Gayle

50mg Parnate
200mg Provigil
12 1/2mg Nortriptyline

How late in the day do you take Provigil?

As you mentioned, it might be worth the experiment to see how you react to the nortriptyline if given at bedtime.

If things crap out on you, just know that you can go up to 80mg of Parnate and 75mg (and higher if you are a rapid metabolizer) of nortiptyline. I am surprised that such a small amount of nortriptyline is helping you so much at this point. Whatever works. Some people on Psycho-Babble believe in this kind of low dosing. Either way, things appear very encouraging.

Currently, I am taking:

Parnate 80mg
nortriptyline 150mg
Lamictal 200mg
Abilify 20mg
lithium 450mg

Hi Gayle, Glad you're better but please try to correct the no sleep thing. It can trigger all sorts of bad things.

Carry on

I took the Nortrip at bedtime last night and slept pretty well!
I was taking the Provigil as late as 6pm but now don't take it after 2-3pm. It really gives a lift to the Parnate.
I'm thinking of stopping the Provigil for a little while to see what exactly the Parnate itself is doing at this point. I don't feel like I'm having any side effects from it. But I wonder How much, if any, fatigue its giving me.
Scott, do you know if it matters when and how one takes Parnate? Could you take it all at one time or do you need to spread it out? Right now I am taking 20mg AM, 20mg noon-1pm and 10mg 4pm. I do seem to get that late day Parnate fatigue, but I don't let myself go to sleep and it starts getting better 8 or 9pm with a second wind,so I have to force myself to bed at 11pm. It's very odd. Any comments or suggestions? How do you dose your Parnate?
Thanks,
Gayle

Parnate works via sleep deprivation IMHO.

When I achieved remission while taking a combination of Parnate and desipramine, I started out having total sleep deprivation. I needed some aggressive treatment of the insomnia. I did great once my sleep medication was optimized, sleeping 8 hours a night. Parnate did completely abolish dreaming for me, even with sleep medication, presumbably by suppressing REM sleep. This might be important for efficacy, I don't really know. Unfortunately, neither Parnate nor Nardil affect me that way anymore. If they did, I bet I would have reached remission again long ago.
