Well my thyroid TSH is again up from a close to normal of 2.5 last time endo but since then started the bioidentical hormones and now it's risen to over 5. Since Hasimotos is this normal or should I not believe that bioidenticals could help after menopause? BTW my post menapausal blookwork was normal for my age prior to starting now in the perimenopausal range. Have some black and blue marks on thighs that won't go away, cyst like inner thigh, and don't feel better so advise as see both docs tomorrow and don't want to be advised to stick with something if it can harm me. It's the mixed three creams estrogen, progesteron, testosterone. Thanks and know I sound like a broken record. Phillipa

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I am on bioidentical hormones and haven't noticed any impact. I know my gyn things the estrogen is what's important for depression. Honestly, I can't tell I'm on them but if I go off I do start to get night sweats and my muscles feel leaden. I know that estrogen replacement is controversial becasuse of increased cancer risks but I have no idea why or how it would effect your TSH. Sounds like Google time.
Hope you're well otherwise.

Hi Phillipa,
About the Hashimoto's, my understanding is that progresses irregularly (though I don't know why). My TSH went from 1.9 to 3.99 in about 5 months (and I'm not on hormones). So, I'm wondering if the jump is related to bioidenticals or not. How long ago was the lower tsh result? And how long have you been taking the bioidenticals (sorry, I forget)?
Hope you get some answers, and let us know how it goes tomorrow,

Hi guys the hormone doc also did thyroid including free t3 before starting the hormones and both were normal. Zana is your for menopause as I'm postmenopausal. Also just home experiencing a bit of bleeding never happened til the hormones and it's 28 days since the last bleeding episode. So am I younger or harming me. As for google I'm wearing it out. Plus three books on both topics. You know they say the hormones fluctuate during the day at their free will. I wonder if the thyroid also does? FB did you adjust you thyroid? Been on them about three months. And Also would you go with an Endos advise or a non practicing obgyn that is now into anti-againg with the bioidenticals. So confused. Love Phillipa

Hi guys well saw endo and he was great today listened for once and went over all lab work brought with me from hormone docs. He said that he didn't feel the hormones were dangerous as long as they were making me feel better. But they are not and he was going to raise the thyroid so I could continue hormones. We continued talking and he said that if you start bioidenticals after menapause or age 60 probably wouldn't work. And said if stopped the bruising and other symtoms would probably resolve in time. So decided not to continue and he didn't raise synthroid thought give it time and level would return to normal with no hormones. Face it there is no Fountain of Youth except in St Augustine Florida and one time years ago drank out of it. Does want to see report on the microadenoma that I've had for over six years that was never read but the radiologist read it and typed a report. He said sometimes they can grow and interfere with sight and it should maybe be checked again. I feel he was very attentive and knowledgeable. Also said if wanted to try armoir after stabalized I could. I cancelled the hormone doc after that and asked if a charge for that appointment and it was $125.00 so needless to say didn't go. Feel free to comment. Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
Well, at least you resolved the issue for yourself, and glad your endo was attentive to your needs. When are you re-checking your thyroid?

I know of a couple members of my hrt forum who unfortunately have passed on do to hormonally induced cancers. Sometimes months after discontinuation of their hormones. Have you considered a full body scan for cancers for peace of mind?

No I'm not prone to cancer as the autoimmune hasimotos fights the invadeers. Another thyroid check in 12 weeks. Bulldog would you write me a question. Thanks Phillipa

TSH goes up when you take any estrogen---like oral contraceptives OR hormone replacement therapy.
thyroid competes with estrogen for receptor (I think) or maybe competes for the carrier protein.
And estrogen always wins.
I have read this over and over again.
So---start estrogen, thyroid hormone goes down and TSH from pituitary sends message via negative feedback system that we need more thyroid.
I can't think straight but I will say I am post menopausal (55 yrs old)--
When my dear 76 yr old neighbor was given estrogen when they hyped it for protecting the heart -- she told me that it caused bleeding, etc. So she stopped.... I could never take estrogen if THAT happens.
I don't get it about hrt... I tried lots of times to balance my hormones or whatever...
Anyway, It took me forever to get dx'ed w/Hashi's. Will try to post again florence
