Phillipa, besides feeling sorry for those poor rats forced to swim, (or was it that I identified with them?), this article made me think of the relationship that exists in my family between food and depression. I could be reading the leptin thing all wrong, but when any of my bipolar sibs lost weight, an instability of mood followed. Eating also when disthymic. The weight signaled a shift of something...or a sign of stability....

Phillipa,
Quote from Wikipedia:
"There is some controversy regarding the regulation of leptin by melatonin during the night. One research group suggested that increased levels of melatonin caused a downregulation of leptin.[10] However, in 2004, Brazilian researchers found that in the presence of insulin, "melatonin interacts with insulin and upregulates insulin-stimulated leptin expression", therefore causing a decrease in appetite whilst sleeping.[11]"Hence the reason being why I find it easier to loose weight whilst being on Agomelatine???
Love, M.

Maria what a boon that would be if it is true for a lot of other meds as well. Thanks so much for the info. Love Phillipa
