I finally found myself a new psychiatrist that also does therapy a few months ago. This guy is great; he gives me a discount for not having insurance, has been willing prescribe everything I've taken before, can actually read me, and seems to genuinely care. He also believes I have some Aspergers.
I've previously tried Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, Nortrityline, Clomipramine, Parnate, EMSAM, Abilify, Trilafon, Haldol, Lamictal, Wellbutrin, and others medications before. I was extremely hesistant to try an SSRI again, after the horrible weight gain the last times.
I've been on about Prozac for about 2 and a half to three months now. I started at 10mg for a week, then went up to 20mg for a month, then up to 40mg. I only weigh myself about once a month now, instead of everyday. I'm usually in a really good mood. I still obsess over things, but not nearly as much. My body dysmorphia has diminished to a certain extent, where I can force myself to eat more to go along with the lifting I've done for the last 10 months to hopefully put on more muscle; I'll still a thin 5'11" 155lbs, but I'm very muscular for my frame.
The only side effect I've noticed is being a tiny bit more sleepy. No dry mouth, no sexual dysfunction, no unusual weight changes, no emotional blunting. I've been going out more, reconnecting with people, dating; my life's done a complete 180 again. I feel the best I've felt in 5 years.
After giving away my meds so I wouldn't hurt myself months ago, I'm now happy to be alive and am making progress. To anyone that's still suffering, don't give up hope, keep trying. It took me 8 years to find something that gave me some relief. It took the right doctor, and never giving up hope.
Thanks everyone.

Great news!
Same here. After months of misery even on other AD's, I've had a dramatic improvement in my mood and outlook on life after only 5 days at 10mg.
I've taken the stuff before but didn't expect such a great reaction this time around.
Hope you continue to improve.

I had a very similar response to Prozac.
I'm glad you feel better and wish you nothing but the best!

A note to staying well. This is very important, so please take it seriously. No joke. I assume you are on generic? If brand, stay with brand. If on generic, call your pharmacy to find out the name of the generic company who manufactures the bottle of prozac you now have. Going forward, have your doctor specify on the refill prescriptions to use only prozac from THAT company, whoever it is. At your next refill, tell the pharmacist you want that exact company prozac, not prozac from a different company. Despite what some doctors and pharmacists will say about them all being the same, they are NOT. My doctor has seen so many complications, failures, and relapses when pharmacists switch brands. It is such a serious issue with him that, second only to the medication choice, it is the next most important thing in the prescription.
In my book, Prozac is still one of the best drugs ever invented, even after all these years. It is significantly different than the other SSRIs in terms of mechanism and feel. I've been on all of them. Prozac did me the most good for the longest time. It had the fewest side effects too. After about 4 months on it, the side effects were basically invisible except for a slightly lowered libido.
Simpler is better. That common saying holds true in psychiatry a lot more than is given credit. I think sometimes our psychopharmacologists make things more complicated than it is. One good med choice can blow a combination of three other meds in the weeds.I've known people still doing great on prozac 10 years later. I think its poopout rate is lower than most. Its longterm reliability can be strongly enhanced by insisting on the same company prozac you have right now.
I remember when prozac starting working for me, which was like on about day 5, and to imagine how you are feeling on it right now just makes me smile!
