Riluzole for OCD

Posted by mogger on June 9, 2009, at 23:52:25

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone who suffers from OCD/Depression has tried Riluzole and can share their experience with it? It is expensive unfortunately and I am trying to find a natural glutamate modulator but for the life of me can't seem to find a supplement that modulates glutamate but doesn't interfere with my antidepressants?! Agmatine sounds promising but the website for the supplement says don't take it with MAOI's and antidepressants. Does anyone have experience with agmatine and using it safely with their medication? Sorry for the long winded post! Many thanks,
Joseph

By the way I tried 3 grams of N-acetyl-cysteine and I couldn't breath on the frighin stuff so had to come off.

Memantine isn't natural but it shouldn't interfere with anything?

Yes. I agree. If you haven't yet tried memantine (Namenda), I would head in that direction first.

Both riluzole (Rilutek) and memantine work to inhibit glutamate neurotransmission, albeit using different mechanisms. There is a string of recent data demonstrating memantine's superiority over placebo in treating OCD. I tried Riluzole. I found it ineffective for treating my bipolar depression. It seemed like a benign drug, though. I don't recall having any side effects. I imagine you can find out more about it if you search on Google for stuff dealing with ALS.
