Verapamil Anyone? Need doseages and freqeuncy!

Posted by Frustratedmama on May 27, 2009, at 12:37:41

Ok, so I started taking the verapamil and I am noticing a slight relief (not full relief) but the problems are this.... It doesn't last long (only 4 hours at most) and it only is partially helpful (20% relief from anger which is the best I have had in a long time!). So, anyone here have experience? If so what was dose and how often did you take it....? I am taking 80 mg 2 times a day- feel it might need to be 120 4 times a day...... just guessing.......

Bipolar no; however, two of five pdocs said otherwise... The one I trust the most says mood d/o nos- I have been in a mixed state for several months without relief; never felt euphoric (wish i had) and never felt i "needed" less sleep; even though i cant sleep.....so when the new DSM V comes out maybe will be bp..... lol.
How do I get a hold of dinah? also I tried to babblemail you but cant turn my on,.... what do i do?

If you want to Babblemail people, and turn yours on, you have to update your registration so you can check the box "on," which right now is checked "off."

Do that here:

https://dr-bob.securesites.com/cgi-bin/pb/signup.pl

Then just find Dinah's (or Phillipa's) name in blue by opening any post of hers on any board (Dinah posts a lot on Psychology) and clicking it. The window will open for you to type a Babblemail.

I am regularly in touch with Dinah, too, so I'll be glad to point her to this thread.

Let me know if you need more Babblemail help.

It's not me. It was Mouse who was using Verapamil I think. I haven't seen her around lately.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Frustratedmama don't worry about turning on yours. Just as l0derHeart said click my posting name in blue and voila a page will appear and write a measure to me. Be sure to type in the new antispam code letters and then at the bottom hit send. I will get it as an e-mail. As for meds anger can also be a sign of bipolar. Don't know which one doesn't matter. I see you haven't posted more. Don't worry about reregistering now. Just stay the same. If your're back on write something on this thread. A mood stabalizer could work wonders for you. Love Phillipa

Dinah,
Is mouse the same mouse from Crazy meds? Just wondering..... I signed up there too.....

Phillipa and Candace,
thanks again for support..... I tried to babblemail but it won't let me cause mine is off and i cant turn mine on cause i forgot password and its not letting me reregister......\

Thinking i need to add something to verapamil- it is helping but not enough.......

Looks like Mouse used depakote with verapamil.... I tried that years ago and fatigue was horrible for me; however, I wasn't taking adderall then so who knows.... could work.....\

Now I feel the depression pieces.....

Dinah,
One more quick question: In susan c's post she wrote:
"I am off all medications, two strong meds for mental functioning - Depakote ER 1000mg and Verapamil ER 320mg, Prevacid for acid reflux, Rhinochort a sinus spray, ( I continue to do a saline rinse only), asthma meds are now "as needed", my lung function is the best it has ever been. I no longer use a CPAP machine."

Does this mean she is still taking depakote and verapamil or is off them now?

Just wondering as I am looking into the diet stuff as well!

Thanks!

Well, that really stinks.

> Havent tried trileptal....

Trileptal is a close relative of Tegretol. I am not sure that you would avoid the headaches from using it.

Topamax is supposed to be good for migraines. It can also help with impulse control if this symptom is a manifestation of a manic mixed-state.

Zoloft had been used in the past for treating hostility and aggression. I don't know how true this is anymore.

Is the alpha2agonist the tenex? Can that be taken with verapamil? Verapamil is so short acting and I need more relief.....
Also, noticed I am still negative! I need something to pull me up and down at the same time! Does that make sense?

I take verapamil SR 240mg. daily for my heart arrythmia - I have SVT and have taken it for years. I had no idea it was used for psych. purposes. So there is a long-acting. Just be sure your blood pressure is not too low, which any MD will check before prescribing.
