Kind of a follow-up to odon's thread. So much misinformation out there on the net. Can we as babblers post some reliable sources of what exactly adrenal fatigue is as Addison's disease killed my Mother when she was 48 so I fear anything to do with adrenals. Thanks Phillipa

Hi Jan, interesting topic as my GP told me a few weeks back I have adrenal fatigue. I checked the link you provided and some of the symptoms listed;
extreme tiredness, muscle weakness - yes I have. But, low blood pressure and weight loss, I have the opposite so it just make me more confused.
I'm going to continue researching this topic.Take care, Rick

Adrenal fatigue I see it is very real. It can be measured, you can feel the symptoms and see the signs. Poople feel better once it's treated and cured. I don't see why so many refuse to acknowledge that only addisons exists.

Very well said. Think of it as the heart. Is a weakened heart function going to be treated? Or are they not going to acknowledge that something is wrong until it literally stops.
The problem with almost all doctors' views of adrenal function is that it is either dead or alive, but anything in between is fine. Or the error the endos usually make is that they do a challenge test to see if the adrenals respond to a stress drug. Doesn't matter that they are barely kicking all the rest of the time, only that they respond to the drug that moment. Which most will, even severe adrenal fatigue, unless they are just completely shot. So you can walk out of the office sick as a dog but the endo says the adrenals are fine, and your own cortisol test from another doctor shows your cortisol in the dumps. The hypocrocy, ignorance, and arrogance. Frustrating.
Anyway, yeah, you're right. You can measure it, you can duplicate it over and over for confirmation, you can see it, you can clearly see the symptoms, and it is treatable.

HPA axis stuff is affected by many antidepressant treatments. its often out of wack in depression.

Just an add-on to this, but President John F, Kennedy had Addisons disease too.
He was given stimulants and cortizone shots to control it. He was famous for having an ongoing "back problem", but it was justa coverup for being treated for A/D, not back problems, which A/D can simulate or so I have read.
I am sorry to hear about your Mom's illness, Phillipa.

Your're right he did didn't he? And when he was President he got killed on year I think before my Mother died. I wonder how long he had it? Thanks Love Phillipa

I know I am late to this thread but with all that has been going on with me, I am just not on the boards as much.
I have been fighting adrenal fatigue for 1 1/2 years.
There is an excellent book, Adrenal Fatigue, The 21st Century Stress Syndrome by Dr. James Wilson who also has a website called
adrenalfatigue.org. It is loaded with information the site is and his book is excellent. He gives a sure fire way to know if you have this condition which so many endocrinologist, mine included poohpooh.I am thinking of trying another endo who I think I hope more open in treatment options.
I also have Hashimoto's thyroid disorder. Dr. Wilson says often adrenal fatigue and thyroid issues go hand in hand.
He has in the book several treatment options.
I am doing better with my fatigue at the present but it has been a long road.
I have alot of information since that is my best deal is too research something as far as I can.
I have doc friends I always ask too. So I would start with his book and he lists several references as well in his book and website.
