Quit nardil - my post mortem report

Posted by TriedEveryDrug on May 18, 2009, at 23:55:56

So as people here may know, I tried Nardil for SP.

I was on it for about 5 weeks, mostly at 45mg with excursions into 60mg land.

I just want to record my experience with it while it is fresh in my mind.

Started out at the standard 15mg, very few SEs. Moved to 45mgs, still SEs... at first.

Later, at 45mg, after about a week or two, it started stirring up all these feelings of regret from my past.

I also started getting pretty bad GAD - something I do not normally suffer. Small disappointments would send me spiraling into sadness or depression.

Furthermore, I started obsessing about things to the point it was driving people crazy.

All these effects were getting worse and worse the longer I was on nardil. There were periods without these feelings, but almost constantly I felt what I call "frowny" - like I had a big frown on my face all the time.

Additionally, I was getting spacier and spacier - to the point where my car driving was getting unsafe.

So I had enough and bailed, pretty much old turkey. I went down to 30mg and then the next day none.

It has been a week since I stopped. The begining of that week was pretty hellish - LOTS of GAD-style anxiety. Lots of fretting/obsessing over nonsense. Poor sleep (waking up in the middle of the night, tossing and turning, etc.)

Gradually that has subsided. Now after exactly 7 days I *almost* feel back to my normal non-medicated self.

Now despite all of this I think it did help with my SP. Almost took it away completely. At least in some circumstances. Too bad it made me so anxious otherwise.

Regards,
TriedEveryDrug (drug=med, not street drugs)

Hi Phillipa!

I'm probably going to try pristiq + desipramine next.

effexor @75mg was a great anti-anxiety agent for me and great for SP and desipramine was great for my ADD (though hell for my SP).

And I'd really like to try this

...someday

I dunno about 5ht2a antagonists but everything that has been a 5ht2c antagonist has had about it something I like.

Sounds like an awful lot for your brain to adjust to in a short period of time. It's always hard to know when to bail on a med and when to give yourself time to adjust to it and get over the near term side effects.
What are examples of 5HT2 and 5HTa agonists?
