Is Provigil on its own good for depression?

Posted by odon on May 3, 2009, at 8:09:18

Is Provigil a good anti-depressant by itself or when combined to augment another anti-depressant?--It seems to be rated quite high(as in good) for depression on revolution health, but maybe some of those ratings are written by the drug company that makes it,who knows.--All answers as always are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have used Provigil for several years, maybe more. If I kept good records I could tell you. But I have never taken it without something "under" it, ie another AD of somekind. It definitely brightens my mood, gives me energy, gets me up from staring at the wall. But it also has a short half life, about 7 hrs, and can be a kind of nasty crash. It also can cause anxiety which is why I take it with klonopin and gabapentin. And I take Pristiq. I have always used it as an add-on.

Hope this helps.

It's not like amphetamines but it is a stimulatant. I guess it depends on how sensitive you are. I have never used it without klonopin...

Have you ever read a good review on askapatient? I think they have a highly squewed sample. I also don't think provigil is for everyone.
