fMRI study of GAD and treatment responsiveness

This link is to an editorial review of the study, which also has some application to comorbid major depression. The first reference at the bottom has a link to full-text of the study itself.

Thanks for posting that :))

I wondered why they chose Effexor to test?

Then again, why were they suprised that people with anxiety would react to a positive affirmation of what was to be presented?

Isn't that the nature of anxiety-irrational fear?

You're welcome.

I have no idea why they chose Effexor as the treatment. I thought it interesting that activity in one small region of the brain (cingulate cortex) predicted response to medication, not only in GAD but in depression also. What I didn't like is their conclusion that this could become a clinical indicator for treatment. Just what would they tell someone who sought treatment who did not have this activation? It's a correlative finding, not an absolute criterion.
