Hi,
Has anybody on this board taken Wellbutrin and not felt anything at all?
I don't understand it because lots of people say that they have found Wellbutrin stimulating, yet I felt nothing on it.

Do you have anxiety also as it caused a type of hypomania or mania in me in a week. Love Phillipa

> DeniseWhat dose are you taking? I have tried 150mg Wellbutrin XL for a couple of months and now am on 300mg XL. I promised myself I would give 300mg a month and have a week left. It has done nothing for me except make me a little negative, snappy and unsocialable. I would like to stop now but don't want to look back wondering "had I taken it longer, maybe it would have kicked in." I honestly can't wait to discontinue it.

Hey. I posted below about generic vs. brand and found out the FDA is investigating the generic brands of Wellbutrin again:
http://www.pharmalot.com/2008/09/fda-to-review-generic-wellbutrin-again/
That was last year, so I don't know if anything has been done since.
I went out today and bought 15 pills of 150 mg. of the brand, the Wellbutrin SR. It was $40 at Rite-Aid with a 20% discount. I called all the pharmacies around and that was the cheapest. I had taken the brand version years ago-it worked great. I switched to the generic when it came out because of insurance, and I went downhill. Others swear the same thing has happened to them.
In some ways Wellbutrin is my last hope. I just had to try the brand again-for myself-to see if there really was a difference. I'll let you all know if it works this time. I'm thinking its not going to make a difference, but can't move on to something else until I tried this experiment.
But why would this be? I've never had an issue with generic drugs before. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but the only thing I can conclude is that either 1) Glaxo Smith withholds a deviation/component of the drug's chemistry and it is not replicated 100%; 2) the coating on the generics/the fillers used or 3) someone at Glaxo started a rumor about the generic version.
Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

Hi,
Thanks all of you for getting back to me. I guess this means that Wellbutrin is not always that activating.

It is not activating for me either. Once when I forgot one and took it the next time for a brief time I felt that high others speak of, but it was brief. And never again no matter what I do.
But I do know that it is helping my dopamine levels as my doc measure them periodically and the levels show an increase from when I wasn't taking it. So for now, I remain on it. It is doing something I guess however I feel taking it.

I just took 150 mg a few hours ago and already feel edgy and extremely tired. I felt good when I got up this morning.
The last time it worked for me, I remember it made me shaky, nervous and a bit edgy-extremely activating--then I got used to it and it was great.
I don't remember feeling tired like this when I took it last. I don't know what to do considering I have huge deadlines to meet and am not getting my work done. What to do...

How does your doctor measure your dopamine levels?

Garnet,
My doc measures my neurotranmittors using an urine test that measures all hormones and transmittors.
It takes about 3 weeks for the tests to come back. And my insurance pays for it. Blue cross/blue shield.
Some people say that this is not a valid test, however, I can say in response is that I felt if this test was not useful at some level then why would the insurance company pay since most of the time they try not to pay.
In any case, the use of it has helped me feel better.

you might want to search the boards, but last summer i tried wellbutrin again but i got stuck with generic and it was Horrible for me, there was a lot of info on posts about this. my memory is not that great but i do remember that there were two generics the TEVA brand and the LEMON brand (then i think glaxo had their own generic??)
anyway i think it was the TEVA that i reacted terribly too not only did it make me nauseaus but headaches AND my depression was worsening. many people complained about this (i think TEVA) brand.
i switched and it still never helped me much. my ins. wouldn't cover ANY of the name brand to i never could try that again.also they mentioned the ecteric coating on it was different than the name brand, thus expelling it at a different rate in your body.
try doing search on babble for generic wellbutrin. i think it was around june or so last year??
best wishes with the name brand.
b2c.
but also mentioned
This is the end of the thread.
