Hi to all!!!
I will be starting Marplan this coming Thursday. Could anyone using marplan already please tell me how you are doing on this med and what experiences you have had.
I understand that everyone is different, but I would just appreciate a little feedback as I am very nervous (and hopeful) that this will work as it seems I do not respond to ssri's.
Thanks,
Courtney

> CourtneyI know you were following a recent thread about someone who was doing very well on Marplan. Why don't you take his positive experience and use that to motivate yourself.
A word of advice. If you start polling psychobabble for all their experiences you will end up confused and demoralized. You will hear good stories and bad stories. I Just don't think that a good idea. Everyone is unique and has their own unique chemistry.
Go into this trial with a clear and unbiased mind. If you start reading horror stores about the med that might scare you or influence your mind to think you are having those sides.
Just go into this trial with an open and positive mind and give this med a fair chance. By the way the thread we both followed on Marplan has given me the idea of asking my p-doc to also start me on Marplan. He is not adverse to prescribing maois.
Good Luck with your trial! Stay positive.

Marplan is at the top of the list for my doc visit next week.
I haven't paid much attention to Marplan threads here, probably because they are so few. There was one recently though where someone said it was great, after not getting benefit from Naril or Parnate.
Go to askapatient.com and type Marplan in the search box. It is a place where people rate their meds and describe their experiences with them.
Another is revolutionhealth. Type in a search something like "revolution health marplan ratings reviews". And try a general google search with words like "Marplan ratings" "Marplan forum" or something along that way of thinking.

Has a reputation as the least effecttive of the maois but my p-doc uses it a lot and it is his favorite maoi.

Thanks bulldog.
You're right. I just want so bad for something to work. I am also worn out from starting and having to stop so many meds. (Mentally and Physically)
Promise I will stay clear headed. O.K........here we go!!

Hey Bleau,
Thanks for the info.
Already one up on you on those. I had already looked up Marplan reviews on several sites and on askapatient. (I look up everything on askapatient). I think there were only 2 reviews on Marplan at askapatient, which were both good and a few on revoultionhealth and some other sites. (Just not alot of reviews out there yet on Marplan)
I think the advice bulldog gave me is good as I think some of us are following the thread started above about Marplan. (Posted by MAOI, I think)
I'm just going to quit worrying about it. I'm just so worn out physically and emotionally from having to go on and off so many meds and not responding well to any of them.
I am also pissed that after reading on here and on other sites about maois, that if they do work as well as the literature I have read says they do versus ssris, why my pdoc or any other pdoc I have seen never suggested them. I feel like if Marplan works, then I was unecessarily tortured for years.
But on the other hand, I will be ecstatic to have my life back. So....here goes.
Stay tuned!!! :-)

>Many docs are poorly educated about meds. For many their education is the visiting pharm salesman. There tends to be an assumption that newer is better which definitely is not true. Since maois might be older than the p-doc they may only have second hand info that they are very dangerous and have never even delt with them.

I'm a Marplan guy. 55mg/day and loving it! Most stable and consistently positive of any drug i've ever taken (including Nardil and Parnate).
Marplan is way way way way way way way underprescribed, especially for those who have had positive benefits from other MAOIs.
This is the end of the thread.
