One of my most salient depressive symptoms is poor cognition (inability to concentrate, remember words and incidents, understand abstract ideas quickly like I used to). Because I'll be taking so many classes this coming semester, I really want something that will give improve my cognitive abilities and also lift my depression. Do you think Wellbutrin is a good choice? (I just started it today, but will be seeing my doctor soon to discuss other options).
Has Wellbutrin effected your thinking and ability to concentrate?

No but I take a small dose (100mg. SR) for the past 2 years. It does not affect my cognitive abilities nor does it enhance them as far as I can tell, but I do want to mention that budeprion is not the same drug as wellbutrin and I would stay away from it. most people feel it is not the same medication at all. Google it here on Dr Bobs or even the web. Best of luck. Abby

Lots of talk about generics vs brandname. Is there a difference or not? Phillipa

I would very much prefer to be on Wellbutrin, but I just cannot afford it! (One month of the generic costs me $124 with insurance). Does that sound right to the rest of you?
Do you happen to know the area around how much Wellbutrin costs? Or if it's possible to "cut through red tape" to get my insurance to cover some of the name brand?

Hello, Clive - Wellbutrin caused problems for me with cognition. It made me really spaced out, much like an SSRI would. So one month into law school I discontinued it, and noticed an immediate improvement! I switched to Strattera which was GREAT for cognition and concentration, but made my depression worse. I would look at Strattera to help with cognition issues, but you'll need an AD too because it won't help with that at all.
