Is Neurontin weight neutral?

Posted by incubusfan5 on December 21, 2008, at 15:32:11

After gaining weight on SSRIs/SNRIs, I told my pdoc I don't want to try anything for my anxiety that causes weight gain.

He wants me to start taking Neurontin. Does anyone have any experience with this and weight? I

Are there any other anti-anxiety drugs besides benzos/MAOIs that don't cause gain?

Thanks.

I've taken 300-600mgs Neurontin daily for quite a while and have had weight gain. So have others I've talked to.

At one point I was on 2700 mg. of Neurontin daily, and if I gained weight, I would have to say it is minimal. I no longer take it because it just wasn't working for me. The Zyprexa I have just started taking is the worst thing I have ever taken for weight gain. My appetite is ridiculous - I just want to eat anything.

All the best

Neurontin/Lyrica I don't think has really much weight gain. At least personally. Everyone has a different metabolism, of course.

Not all SSRIs have weight gain -- Paxil though is notorious.

Have you tried TCAs before ? They can cause weight gain in some people but that depends.

Hi.

From what I understand, Lyrica does have a greater potential for weight gain. Neurontin is generally weight neutral. I have been on both drugs. I really didn't notice much weight gain from either drug, although I was on Lyrica for less than three weeks. Although weight gain is listed as a side effect of Lyrica, I don't believe I have seen any complaints of major weight gain caused by it on Psycho-Babble.

I take a ton of neurontin and haven't put on weight.
