Any ideas?

Posted by antigua3 on November 15, 2008, at 14:45:18

Here's what I take daily:

20 mg Cymbalta (dropped down from 40mg about six weeks ago)

250 mg Lyrica (was 3 in the morning and 2 at night of 50mg each, but two weeks ago was changed to 100mg in the morning, 100mg six hours later, and 50 mgs six hours after that.)

2mg Klonopin (used to be as necessary, but changed to .25 4x per day when Lyrica dosage was changed, two weeks ago.)

25mg Trazadone nightly

----
Since the Lyrica change, I have been beyond anxious. Jittery and not able to concentrate.

Anyone know why? I know w/the Cymbalta lowered, I'm more my old self, and maybe this is my anxiety-ridden old self?

Any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks,
antigua

Some say lyrica in higher doses is stimulating??? Why did you lower cymbalta? Hope you get some great answers. Love Phillipa

I can't figure out how much your lyrica was reduced, but I would say that the problem is with the lower dosage COMBINED with the lower dosage of Cymbalta. I take Cymbalta and it helps my anxiety a lot.

Hope you get back on track.

My lyrica dose stayed the same, just spread out across the day. I had gotten used to the drop in Cymbalta before he re-did Lyrica. We're aiming to get off Cymbalta altogether (pdoc thinks that was making me nervous; that's also why he was adjusting the dosing of the timing of the lyrica.)

Can lyrica make you feel this way? I liked the lowering of the Cymbalta dose; I felt more like me, but if this is me off Cymbalta... and if the lyrica has nothing to do with this, then I don't know what to do.

lowered cymbalta because I was feeling better. But again, the lyrica dose stayed the same, just spread out differently over 24 hours.

Try going back to the old dosing schedule of Lyrica and see if it helps. If not, then increase the Cymbalta and see what happens.

So your Lyrica dose didn't change in terms of how much you take per day, but did change in how much you take per dose. I can see maybe some potential for feeling different from that, but not likely.

But cymbalta, that's a different story. 40mg down to 20mg is huge. If you think about it, going from 20mg to 40mg is a 100% increase. You dropped your dose by that much in one sudden move. Very powerful drug.

Massive prolonged anxiety can follow downward dosage adjustments of ssris or snris. For some reason, the meds with action on norepinephrine, such as cymbalta, seem much more powerful at causing anxiety on discontinuation or dose changing. Messing around with norepinephrine is common and and innocent enough it seems like to the medical world, but in my opinion it is playing in the Major Leagues. Big potential gains, but also more at stake if you lose.

What you are feeling should slowly settle down. It is the body, hormones, and receptors trying to readjust to the new environment. Once they get it figured out, you'll settle into a baseline of some sort. Some people it takes a couple weeks, others a couple months.

To remove any variables that complicate the picture, you might want to return to your previous Lyrica dosing schedule. That way you would at least be able to rule that one out or in as a contributing factor.
