Jeroen,
Sorry you are feeling so bad. When I feel down I tend not to eat also. Unfortunately, it always makes it worse as blood sugar goes down. I know not a cure, but it will help. I made myself eat cottage cheese last night (yuk) but did feel better in a bit. Hope you post to Phillipa about what meds youre on. Had family member in hospital, many trials until we found right mix. You will, hang in there.

Depression will do that, its part of the negative features of schizophrenia basically. You'll eat again when you feel better. If you can't stomach food there are always nutritional drinks in hospitals, there are here at least.
Hang in there -- I know its very easy of us to say that, but these medications are powerful and they can take a long time to work.
I really wish they could release you to your family or a trustworthy family friend who can monitor you so you can experience the outside world, be compliant (I'm not trying to say you wouldn't be, its just probably one reason they keep people in hospitals) and let the medications take their time -- they do take many months to give you a benefit.
-- best wishes
Jay

Hi Jeroen,
I've been a culprit of Seroquel & Abilify too.
They've notched my Seroquel up to 900 mgs (sometimes even 1000 mgs) per day and then added the Abilify to counteract the depression from the Seroquel (it will do this as it down regulates dopamine).
For me it made things worse. Really bad bad anxiety ---> for which they gave me 8 to 10 Ativan per day (can you believe it???)
Now I'm on 300 mgs of Seroquel, 100 mgs of Trazodone and 3 mgs of Ativan. As adjuncts I take 1200 mgs of fish oil and 2000 mgs of magnesium. I feel the latter is stabilizing me the most. Don't exactly know why, but I've read many good things about magnesium. If I get to jittery I take 1 or 2 tablets of Niacine (vit. B3, will make you go red for about 30 mins) but it's available OTC and not very expensive.
Hope this helps some.
Hang in there son!

>Well... there's always the mention of the metabolite mCPP not being a good choice for those with psychosis/psychotic features.. I can't say what it would do in your body though.

Which one is doing it??
Abilify made me tired. It also made the zyprexa uneffective after a while.

Hi Jeroen,Close family member was put on fairly big dose Abilfy, Risperdal, and Seroquel, one after another. Dont remember exact doses but is currently on 300mg seraquel and 1250 depakote daily.
I was rereading your post. While I can't find any side effect in my reading describing anxiety and paranoia, I sure saw it in him. (Not on Seroquel, but on Abilify AND Risperdal). It got so bad he could not be in the next grocery isle and at the mall, you'd have to stay within a couple feet of him.
We had Pdoc take him off those and asked for mildest antipsych. He went on Seroquel and, along with Depakote gets along pretty well. Still a little afraid of dark, etc. but always been that way. Your Pdoc knows you best and I'm sure is carefully monitoring your meds, but just thought I'd share our experience with those meds. Hope it helps.

Hi Jeroen,
No they first started me on Seroquel to kill off the anxiety. But after about 6-8 weeks I started to get really depressed. So we added Abilify. This cleared the depression but made me so anxious I sometimes thought I was becomming paranoid.
Swapped the Abilify for Trazodone. This seems to be a good combo, 'cause my anxiety is about 50% less and the depression hasn't returned (generally speaking). Other good thing about Trazodone: is good for libido! (may be this is only for the ladies??)The only side effects of this combo are dry mouth and constipation (for which I take a laxative).
Hope this information will help you further.
My best,
Maria

Other good thing about Trazodone: is good for libido! (may be this is only for the ladies??)Haven't heard of that one. As for men, it can cause priapisms, erections that do not go away and are not associated with arousal. If its significant, you have to have it operated (drained).
It did happen to me several times but I was younger and it wasn't a particularly severe form, but I was only taking a sleep level dose. Not saying everyone will get it, its just something to remember.

Are you still taking the abilify? And do you think its helping? Abilify can make you lose sleep and be tired.

Jeoren, I guess you get a lot of computer time at the hospital, that's good. You certainly type a lot and that is a good sign. What country are you located in? The hospitals here do not have computer access for it's patients, at least none that I have seen.
