I was previously taking Lexapro & Wellbutrin. Lexapro helped with my social anxiety, mild depression, anger/irritability. It started making me very sleepy & I was still having problems with lack of motivation, so we added the Wellbutrin, which fixed both of those problems. I felt better than I had ever felt for about 8 months on this combo. Then, both meds stopped working. I fell into deep depression, which I eventually pulled out of on my own somehow.
Now Doc wants to put me on Celexa (my request since Lexapro is more expensive & my funds are limited with no insurance), Wellbutrin, & a mood stabilizer. She mentioned Abilify, but it's crazy expensive. She finally decided on generic Tegretol since it's on the $4 list at Walmart. She also said it's less sedating. Since the Lexapro was making me really sleepy, I assume the Celexa could do the same, so I don't need anything else that's sedating.
After reading all the Tegretol side effects, I got scared. I'm thinking about asking her to write a script for Trileptal, Seroquel, or Risperidone instead. Basically, I'm looking for a mood stabilizer that will keep my anti-depressants working properly & help level out my mood swings. (I experience rapid cycling between explosive anger/irritability & mild depression.) It's gotta be on the less sedating end & under $100 if possible. Any ideas?

Lithium is the classic mood stabilizer and it's on the $4 list at Wal-mart.
In addition, various pharmaceutical companies offer patient assistance programs that provide free medication for those without prescription drug coverage.
