Cymbalta mix up

Posted by maxime on October 27, 2008, at 15:31:59

I was on 30 mg of Cymbalta and it was recently increased to 60 mg a day. I still had my 30 mg pills so I took two a day for the past few days. Today I realised that they are actually 60 mg pills! The pharmacy made a mistake. That means that I have been taking 120 mg a day!!

The 30 mg capsules and 60 mg capsules are exactly the same colours. So check your Cymbalta!

So nice to hear your "voice" back here, Maxime

That's just weird. Shame on the pharmacy.

Are you sure, though? This page at Drugs.com shows one yellow/blue and one white/blue. But maybe you are taking a generic....not Lilly's ?? Or is there no generic for Cymbalta? (Not super-current on psych drugs. I learn from what I read here and can't recall. lol)

No harm done, I assume, though? You've felt okay even if you took 120? Be careful - sometimes I think we can't trust anyone but ourselves, and even then...... -- 10der

It's not available in Generic yet. It's only been available in Canada since January of this year. The capsules are the same colour and do not match the pictures in the link. Very weird.

I think ....

Now that I think of it, maybe I was never on just 30 mg. Maybe it's been 60 mg all along. I've only had one prescription with lots of repeats on it ... maybe they misread the prescription. It doesn't make sense that the pills would be the same colour.

Maxime usually started at 20 or 30mg but even though the manufacturer still says 60mg max I was prescribed 120 mg so it's safe. Phillipa

Some doctors start Cymbalta right away at 60mg -- I don't know the wisdom of that or not. If one is conservative they'll probably go 20, 30, 60.

Lilly doesn't really think there is a difference between 60 and 120mg of the drug, but then again when I was on it I was up to 80 and eventually 120. Of course the insurance wasn't paying past 60 if I recall.

A single 120mg dose isn't going to affect you, but if you're really concerned and you can't remember what you were prescribed from the beginning and now, I would page your doctor if possible and explain the situation.

That's the only rational thing I think.

None of us can play doctor on your medication regime, that's not fair or correct.

And yes, I did what the other poster did and looked up the images, they're definitely different. Its usually a standard to be different in both colour (although batches vary, I've seen that olive green not quite the same on the 20s I think) so medication mixups do not happen. Including generics. As well as whatever ridiculous name they come up for a drug, they sometimes are rejected by the FDA because they're too close to another agent.
