Just wondering if anyone benifited from doses of lexepro over 20 mg? 20 is listed as the max dose which is the amount im taking but it just doesn't quite seem to have enough kick to it.. i've been on every other ssri and similar with too many side effect problems.. lexepro is the first that has helped my mood and at the same time not caused any side effects at all.

I noticed a big improvement in my mood when I went from 10 mg to 20 mg...and then again when I went from 20 mg to 30 mg. There was a slight improvement when I went from 30 mg to 40 mg.
After being on 40 mg for about 8 months, I started getting very depressed again and we upped my dose to 60 mg. I am lucky in that I generally don't suffer from many side effects, but it did not help with my depression at all. My guess is that Lexapro 'pooped out' after I had been on it for about a year and a half total (this is fairly typical for me).
I am pretty sure that I had to get my doctor to pre-authorize any dose higher than 20 mg with my insurance company but I'm glad I did - I definitely found a higher dose to be effective, at least for awhile.

Although 20mg is the maximum recommended by the manufacturer, some pdocs will prescribe higher doses when the potential for benefit outweighs the risk. Some research studies have used 50mg to treat severe OCD.
Glad to hear the Lexapro is helping your mood and that you're not having side effects. Best wishes finding an optimal dose.
