update on my life:

Posted by F00TBALL on September 23, 2008, at 23:29:48

If you don't remember me or my story, I'll start with a brief recap.
- SA/Depression started late in HS
- Went out-of-state to college
- Came back home in late October
- Went through multiple meds with no success
- Started Nardil. Worked great!!
- Accidentally took an old SSRI instead of a provigil. Full blown Serotonin syndrome. 3 days in the hospital
- Off Nardil. Feel awful.
- Found doctor who would put me back on Nardil
- Started CBT
- Left psycho-babble

Since then...
The side effects from Nardil were unbearable, so I weaned off it.

I started Lamictal based on success in my family. It worked just as great as Nardil with none of the side-effects!

I learned about kava kava. I'm as skeptical as anyone when it comes to "alternative meds," but my curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to give it a try...
Wow! Reminded me so much of Klonopin without the drowsiness, memory problems, and increasing tolerance. Why isn't this more widely known??

So today, I'm back in school, living with my girlfriend, and doing great!
Never give up hope, people!!

note: I've found that the kava capsules, the most common way of taking it, are completely USELESS. Did nothing except give me a headache.
Go with the powdered kava root, which can be used to make a great tea!

Football seems like a lot feel when someone leaves that they found a med that worked. I guess when you were last here Nardil was working now your're the second person I know of this week to get off nardil. How can a mood stabalizer compare to an ad? Is the mechanisim of action similar? If you subscribe to WebMD a news letter is e-mailed to you and Kava Kava was on the list one as beeing very good. Love Phillipa glad you well.

I have no idea. I tend to not really delve into how various drugs work. It just makes me confused.

I agree with that webmd is just informative not technical. Phillipa

In the words of the great Marahsi Looma too much information just makes us more confused. God has placed certain meds on this earth as a gift so do not question God's plan.

Football you are young yet an inspiration to many of us. You have followed your instincts and done very well. Some say meds don't work and you'll hear a million opinions but in the end you have to follow your gut instincts.
