What I'd be interested in is how you think it affects your illness/symptoms. As you may already know, Agomelatine is an antidepressant soon to be marketed which is, in part, an agonist of melatonin receptors (just like Ramelteon). I've read that scientist thinks that this characteristic help relieve the symptoms of depression (the main one being 5-HT2C antagonism). Now, ramelteon and Agomelatine doesn't works exactly in the same way regarding melatonin receptors but.... Anyone as any thoughts or experience about this ?/\/\arty

Rozer,
First of all, its expensive. 50 dolller co-pay on some insurance.
8mg failed, i just noticed slight drowsiness, with some "natural" feelings to go sleep. It's not a "make you go to sleep" medication. Meletonin itself would be better at 3mg.

I was on Temazepam for 2 years, and i could not believe. Its usally given for 30 days, for a severe period of insomnia. I went off it fine, just quit.Miracle.

But Rozerem does not "make" you sleep, Tylenol PM could get you sleep better in my opinion.thanks for bring' up the subject.

When I took Rozerem, I had a good run with it. I took it while on EMSAM, which caused intense insomnia for me. The Rozerem did not "make" me go to sleep, but it did ease me into sleep -- and its effects got better, and better, and better as time went on. I think it improved the quality of my sleep, and it's the only hypnotic which hasn't caused problems for me the next day. No grogginess, no fogginess, nothing.
Just a nice, mild, natural feeling, good night's sleep.
My doctor, who is a brilliant genius and usually quite reliable from what I can tell, says that its effects improve over time, and benefits can continue to accrue over as long as 12 months. He also says that it seems to augment AD effects for many of his patients.
But it's not going to knock you out.
I hope that helps.

My understanding was that it's just a modified and more expensive version of melatonin. My experience with Melatonin, however, has been that I've needed to increase the dose over time.

IMO this drug is a scam. Melatonin is cheap and over the counter.

Thanks to all for your thoughts on Ramelteon. I wish someone would tell me if it did had an effect on their depression or not, but that's not that important right now./\/\arty

Marty: Melatonin helped somewhat with my depression. I have delayed sleep cycle. When I am most depressed, I will not be able to get to bed until early morning, and I sleep until early evening. This makes it impossible to accomplish anything or be employed. Melatonin helps keep my sleep schedule in line with the rest of the world. I don't notice any direct effect on my mood, but getting up at a normal time helps accomplish things and feel less hopeless since i haven't wasted the whole day. Other sleep aids i tried made me oversleep or not sleep well. And i don't have tolerance to melatonin. I would think razemeteon would work similarly.
