Lamictal for Bipolar 2

Posted by blueboy on September 18, 2008, at 15:57:14

I haven't been here in a month or so. I just wanted to say, Lamictal has performed extremely well for me, after 10 desperate years of searching for an AD.

I'm not "well" but I'm sure a heck of alot better off. And zero noticeable side effects! It has really smoothed out my mood swings.

Like last weekend, I went into depression. It was very mild compared to my former state. I was nowhere near lying in bed most of the day and was hardly in pain at all. I was able to shower and fix supper, although I couldn't do a lot of chores, etc.

I'm taking 250mg per day.

Congratulations. It is good to know people here can get better and go out and be involved in life. Thanks for letting us know about your experience a med that worked. I agree lamotrigine seems like a great med.

You might think about Deplin. For me it made all the difference. I even had to cut back on Lamictal a bit. Lamictal was a wonderful discovery for me. I'd never go off it completely. I have taken 250mg for years. It was far better than any previous meds, but still there were painful times. Those are so much less now I'd have to say I'm almost normal. Deplin is "medical food" and has been great. I wish everybody could have the response to it that I have had.

I am currently on Topamax, (which I am so afraid of discontinuing because of nasty migraines). My doctor says I take the biggiest dosage he has ever given. That worries me because I have an awful memory loss. I also take Wellbutrin, and Desipermine. And still I cry most of the time and want to stay in the house and just sit in my chair and never get up again. It is an effort just to sit here and type but I know I need help. I was just wondering about the lamictal because my daughters friend was on it and had wonderful effects from it. How about side effects anybody know, How about weight gain? insomnia? I sure appreciate the help.

Hi Bluebaby,

I take lamictal for BP1. I was really anxiously depressed before and it has really helped. My mood is very stable and things are going well. I haven't experienced any weight gain or any big side effects. I do have memory problems but don't know if that's caused by lamical.

Good luck! You will get better and find some answers I am confident of this!
