Remeron, Ambien and Lunesta

Posted by X-ray on August 14, 2008, at 5:49:28

Hi everyone,

I have been on Remeron and Lyrica for some time, but this combo was not for me.

So I'm looking for a drug that will give me better sleep in conjunction with Remeron.

The answer might be Ambien or Lunesta.

I would appreciate comments from anyone who has been on Remeron/Ambien or Remeron/Lunesta.

Do you feel drowsy in the morning?

Best regards,
X-ray

My pdoc told me that Remeron was so sedating I'd need no sleep meds if I went on it. Have you not found this to be true?

Hi,

I have been on Elavil for 35 years, but I never liked the side-effects.
However, this drug is more effective for sleep than Remeron.

So I would like to add something to Remeron, but maybe I'm on the wrong track.

Elavil is a more potent drug than Remeron, and my brain has been used to it.

That's the problem in a nutshell.

But of course, your pdoc is essentially correct about Remeron.

Best regards,
X-ray

Takes a lot to get me to sleep and was on l5 of remeron once with benzos and still up plus they added seroquel still didn't sleep. So you feel that elavil is kind of like benzos with me and that it is the best for you? Does it still work? Or is that why your're changing med? Phillipa

Hello Phillipa,

I have been on Elavil for 35 years, and I have hated the drug for 34 years.

Better late than never...

Remeron is a modern medicine that has benign side-effects.
So if I can function on this drug I shall be very happy.

I just don't know yet.

Best regards,
X-ray

Remeron is like Seroquel in that small doses tend to be very sedating, yet increases in the dosage result in decreased sedation.

15mg of Remeron was probably one of the very strongest and best sleep aids that I have ever taken. I couldn't stay at this dosage, as my Dr. was just titrating me up to my 60mg dose (to treat bipolar depression), which didn't make me sleepy at all.

Similarly, 25mg of Seroquel knocks me out like a sledgehammer but for a few years I was taking 400-600mg of the stuff during the daytime with very little sedation.

It's all very weird and counter-intuitive. By the way, I tried temazepam recently and that is now my favorite sleep med, bar none. I need 60mg of it to do anything, but I always sleep for exactly 8 hours and then wake up totally refreshed--just like clockwork, every single time. It's amazing. =)

Best of luck to you!
