I apologize if this is a duplicate post. I posted it earlier and refreshed the main page but I don't see it. It may be possible it did not go through.
In any event, I am new here, and currently on Nardil. I was wondering if anyone has had success with any herbs or medications to reverse anorgasmia. Thank you!

Cyproheptadine works well for Nardil-induced anorgasmia.

I looked it up and it seems that 4mg is the standard. How many times a week or a day do you take it? My dr will probably know very little about it.
Also, is it something like Viagra where you just take it right before, or do you take it on a regular basis so you're good to go anytime?
Thank you!

I'd be surprised if your psychiatrist isn't familiar with it. Generally it works fine if you take it about an hour before sex. If you find it makes you too tired for sex, have a cup of coffee or one of those energy drinks after you've taken it. Also, if it doesn't work that way and you still have the anorgasmia, some p-docs recommend taking it regularly. If that's the case, you might try taking it each night, since it makes most people sleepy.
Anyway, I know it works well with Nardil and the SSRI's. It doesn't work with certain other drugs though, only the serotonergic ones.

Very low dose risperdal will do the same thing. It costs more, but docs love prescribing APs so might be easier to get.

But it's an antihistamine and I thought you weren't supposed to take an antihistamine with Nardil. No?

Theres two or three antihistamines that cause enough 5ht reuptake to theoretically cause serotonin syndrome...cyp. is fine to take.

Thanks for your input. Seeing as it's OTC and rather inexpensive I'd love to try it. I am also on Lamictal though. Wonder if there are any interactions there.

I believe cyproheptadine works via blockade of serotonin 5-HT2c receptors. Geodon is an even more potent antagonist at this receptor. One might speculate that 20-40mg would do the trick. I'm not too sure someone would want to take an antipsychotic to remediate sexual side effects unless they need to be on one anyway. Of course, Geodon can be a potent augmenter of antidepressants.
For me, my ability to achieve orgasm took several months to return on Nardil. Others have reported the same thing. No guarantees, though.

I haven't used cyproheptadine, so I can't attest to its utility. Many others have reported success with it, though. I think the idea is to take it immediately before sex so that the sedating antihistamine effects don't start too soon. The other thing that I don't know is what the ideal dosage is.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
