withdrawal - worst part over?

Posted by g_g_g_unit on July 28, 2008, at 22:07:14

hey i had been on 100mg luvox for about 3 weeks total (on the drug 7 weeks total to achieve that dose) until 4 days ago when i ran out.i was planning on coming off of it, as arranged with my pdoc, over the course of 15 days, by dropping down 25mg every 5 days. since running out i've experienced intense nightmares, waking up drenched in sweat yet feeling shivery at the same time. i guess that's about it as far as withdrawal symptoms. i feel slightly calmer now since luvox was aggravating my anxiety. the pharmacy had to order it in and has some available now so is it worth picking it up and tapering off? or at this point should i just stick it out? is it possible i may get rebound effects that will only surface later on? thanks

You know I can't get off luvox only 50mg with valium been so many years I think my brain has adapted to it. How long have you been on it? Did it help? Don't think it aggravates my anxiety think it helps but hey we're all different. Didn't Lar have a bad side effect from it a while ago. Maybe read it in the archieves. Being taken off it once last summer didn't sleep with high doses of benzos. I guess taper it. Phillipa

Most SSRI withdrawal side effects can last 1-2 weeks if left off the rx. When withdrawal is difficult, sometimes substituting the luvox with prozac can help since prozac gradually weans itself off over 4-6 weeks. Talk to ur pdoc about that if u need an alternative.

Good luck!

thanks for your responses. i tried it for about 8 weeks phillipa. i had a typical (f0r me) ssri response - drowsy during day, insomnia at night, increased agitation, restless leg. no sign of insomnia or agitation abating. did not help GAD or OCD. as for withdrawal, i was more concerned about a *lack* of real problems so was wondering if stuff could crop up later. but so far so good, just some flu like symptoms but i'd been feeling something coming on prior to stopping anyway.
