I need your help, your opinion. Someone on here said that Nardil may not be working for you as well as it could if you are not experiencing the side effects. Is that true?

I went through all those nasty side effects with my first 10 weeks on Nardil. Other than feeling fatigued all the time, I don't feel any of those side effects. So that theory kinda makes sense to me. Any thoughts? Thanks, Michael

I've heard that, too, but I haven't seen any literature on it. Haven't looked for any, though. I suppose if we consider it to be true, which side effects or would it be all side effects with Nardil? I've had so darn many since I started that I forget about them, even if I still have them. They just kind of blend into the picture. Mine are mild and not at all a problem, though, so that makes it easier. I definitely still have hyperreflexia, one that gives me minutes of amusement from time to time, so I guess if it's true, then Nardil must still be working for me.

But other meds have side effects that can present at start up but wane in time while the med is still effective. So I tend not to believe this one about Nardil.

Are you feeling that it's no longer effective for you?

Hi Michael what does the pdoc you see say? I really feel for you and wish I had answers but as you know I don't. Stargazer? Love Phillipa but shouldn't side effects lessen with time and then you just feel good or are MAOI's different in that way?

Hmm...well, for me one of the chief side effects of Nardil was that it stopped working!

Of course, I also went from 110 to 160lbs before I even realized what was happening.... (I'd never had a weight problem before and so wasn't as cautious about eating habits as I could have been)

Then there was desipramine, one of the most effective ADs I've ever tried. Unfortunately my serum level was elevated and I had a seizure. My pdoc wouldn't let me take it anymore after that needless to say.

No, I don't think side effects = efficacy, necessarily, although it probably is true that some of these meds wouldn't work as well in general if they didn't have the side fx.
