My doc just prescribed for me per my request. Currently on Zoloft. Have tried all the SSRI's and mood stabilizers. Benzos are the only thing that calm me down.
Has anyone had any experience with Deplin ? If so, can you share your results.
Thanks,
Gary

It is a "medical food" (Rx) that eventually converts through methylation to SAMe in the body. It is used investigatively at the moment as a mood stabilizer and antidepressant augmenter. My experience -- and I have a complex system of medications and conditions, is that possibly, and I don't know, two weeks or so into the Deplin, I began to develop high blood pressure associated with specific anxiety triggering events. Or at least I think.
I have discontinued it, and they have slowly dissipated, but I do have somatic symptoms so it is hard to say.
It is not completely innocuous -- as mentioned in my case, I think someone with high anxiety can possibly develop heightened anxiety responses -- but on the other hand, maybe that won't happen. Its more known now after more results have spread into the psychiatric community, that only a fraction of people who will take Deplin will get an excellent result. The others, it may not be noticed or may produced unexpected results.
I'm not sure that I will restart it again after consultation with my doctor, there are a lot of other intricate issues going on at the moment too, but that is beside the point.
So, the answer is, yes, its orderable from most pharmacies and you can have your doctor try it, if he/she is willing, but you have to expect that it may not prove to have large results, and I don't know if it is really used for anxiety.

> GaryDeplin helps your body create more sam-e which may be a good adjunct to an ad but can make anxiety worse.

Seriously I didn't get any anxiety. If you go to Deplin official website it states side effects are like a sugar pill. Phillipa

...Its what I thought before, but not completely true -- for a number of people maybe, but everything, even amino acids and related compounds can have a side effect (on other medications as well). If you have PKU, I would seriously suggest you don't ingest l-phenylalanine. And stacked medication (polypharmacy) can cause unknown results as well.
The resulting SAM-e in the body, just like OTC SAM-e can cause serotonin syndrome and mania in rare cases.

Phillip you have to understand that the sides you get are not necessarily what others will get and vice versa. Some will get anxiety from sam-e regardless of your experience or what the site says. I did get some anxiety from deplin and it interfered with my sleep.
